This is the oldest continuously held running event in Minnesota, first held in 1962 and 1963 as the 10 Mile
Handicap Road Race, and renamed in 1964 to honor Fred Kurz. Fred was a charter member of the Minnesota
Distance Running Association. A resident of St. Paul, he attended Murray High School and the University of
Chicago. He was killed in a bicycle-automobile accident in 1963 at the age of 20.
WHERE: The race starts and finishes at Wayzata Central Middle School, near the intersection of Vicksburg Lane and
Gleason Lake Road (East County Road 15). Course runs out and back five miles on the Luce Line Trail. Surface is
mostly hard packed granular clay. Headphones, dogs, and strollers are NOT permitted on the course.
WHEN: Check in starts at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, April 11th; first runners start about 8:30 a.m. Starting times are
handicapped by the “world-renowned” Lanin Guessimetric Method (implemented by Rick Recker), with the slowest
runners starting first and, ideally, all runners finishing at about the same time (10:30). Thus, all entries MUST include
times and distances from at least two (2) races of recent vintage.
AWARDS: Merchandise awards to first male and female (based on actual times) for age groups 19 & under, 20-29,
30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Marathon Sports gift certificates to first runners to cross the finish line. There
will be Great Harvest cookies and other items at the finish.
ENTRY FEE: MDRA members - $10; all others - $20. You can join the MDRA with this race application by
completing the membership portion of the form and making your check out for the total amount. MDRA membership
is $25 per year, and includes the Running Minnesota Annual, a handbook containing the most complete Minnesota
Race schedule. Mailed entries must be received by April 7th. Race day entries will be reluctantly accepted for $30
for MDRA members and non-members alike.

WAIVER. Knowing that running a race is a potentially hazardous activity, I enter and run this race certifying that I am medically able and properly trained. I also know
that, although protection will be provided, there may be traffic on the course route. I assume the risk of running in traffic. I also assume any and all other risks associated
with running this event including but not limited to falls, contact with other participants, the effects of weather, including high heat and/or humidity, and the condition of
the course. Knowing these facts, and in consideration of your acceptance of my entry, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators or anyone else who might
claim on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release, and discharge the City of Wayzata, the City of Orono, MDRA, and Marathon Sports and any other
organization associated with the race, race officials, volunteers, any and all sponsors including their agents, employees, assigns or anyone acting for or on their behalf,
from any and all claims or liability for death, personal injury, or property damage of any kind or nature arising out of, or in the course of, my participation in this event.
This release and waiver extends to all claims of every kind or nature whatsoever, foreseen or unforeseen, known or unknown. The undersigned further grants full
permission to the race and any organization conducting the race and/or agents authorized by them to use any photographs, videotapes, motion pictures, recordings, or
any other record of this event for any purpose.
