Third Grade News
March
What We Have Been Learning:
In math, we have been wrapping up fractions and beginning work with telling time,
elapsed time, and calculating area. Students should be gaining fluency with their 0, 1,
2, 3, 5, 6, and 10 multiplication and division math facts by practicing them for 15
minutes every night. In the upcoming weeks, we will be introducing the x9 / 9 facts.
We have started our Economics unit in social studies! Students will learn about
supply and demand, creating a budget, production of goods, and natural, human, and
capital resources by planning, creating, and running a store in their classrooms.

In reading, we are reading our novels.
Your students will be writing Poetry. They will also work on writing their speeches
for Bio-Wax
Third Grade Marketplace
On Thursday, March 26th we will be opening our Third Grade
Marketplace for business for the entire day. Your student will be
responsible for planning, creating, and running a real store.
Students will purchase merchandise and services using tickets on
market day.
SAVE The Date: Bio-Wax Museum
Due to inclement weather, the Bio-Wax Museum will open on Thursday,
April 30, 2015 from 2:15-3:15.
Forest Ridge planned to open a Wax Museum on April 30, 2015 but our
shipment of wax statues were accidentally left in the sun by FEDEX and
melted! Third Grade decided to solve the problem and the students are
going to “fill in” as the wax statues for the museum opening!
Students are required to complete the research sheet, write a paragraph,
which they will memorize, and create a simple, inexpensive costume based
on their famous person. The costume should be made at home. Students
will be given time in class to write their paragraphs.
Don’t forget to save the date! Your child will be participating in the Forest
Ridge Bio-Wax Museum on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from
2:15 P.M. to 3:15 P.M.
We hope you can stop by and visit with all the famous people!
