Of interest to students planning college courses in:
Biology (Excluding Pre-Med), Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape
Architecture, Conservation, Forestry, Botany, Agronomy, Plant Pathology,
Environmental Control, City Planning, Land Management, and/or allied
subjects, Wildlife Sciences, Environmental Control (rural/urban) Planning.
Dear Guidance Counselor,
We are pleased to announce that the Garden Club of York will once again be
offering a $1000 scholarship this year to qualified students. We would appreciate if you
would post the enclosed application form on your website and bulletin board and please
notify students who will be interested in these scholarships.
We are also serving as sponsors for the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania’s
scholarship. All applications will also be submitted to the Garden Club Federation of
Pennsylvania if received by January 15, 2015. Information about the Federation
scholarship program is available on their website: www.pagardenclubs.org .

SCHOLARSHIP
A $1000 scholarship is available for students who plan college courses only in the
following subjects: Biology (excluding Pre-Med), Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape
Architecture, Conservation, Forestry, Botany, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Environmental
Control, City Planning, Land Management, and/or allied subjects, Wildlife Sciences,
Environmental Control (rural/urban) Planning.

Applicants must be residents of Pennsylvania. The college or university is the
recipient’s choice, in state or out.

As long as high academic standing is maintained and need is apparent, a student is
eligible to apply or reapply for a scholarship.

An additional 5 (five) points will be added to the score for all children,
grandchildren, or legal dependents of Federated Garden Club members.

Winners will be announced at the Garden Club Annual Meeting, spring 2015.
Grants will be disbursed from the Financial Aid Office of the college/university which
the student is attending. The student and Financial Aid Office will determine how the
money is to be spent: Tuition, food, housing, books, etc.
THE FOLLOWING IS TO BE INCLUDED WITH ALL APPLICATIONS**

Official transcript of academic records including the latest grading period.

Completed financial need form.

A letter from the applicant stating special interests, background, goals, financial
needs and personal commitment, etc. (Not to exceed two typed pages)

Three reference letters as listed on the application. (Not to exceed one typed page
each)

Photograph not to exceed 4” x 6”

This form must be completed by the Financial Aid Office of the college or university involved and by the
student and must be signed by both parties.
This information will be held in strictest confidence. It will be made available to appropriate officials of
the college/university and to members of the Garden Club of York, Pennsylvania’s Scholarship Committee.
Since actual financial need is one of the determining factors in the awarding of scholarships, it is necessary
that all the requested information be supplied.
Use the following form to show all the anticipated sources of funds, including scholarships other than the
one from our club, as well as all projected costs involved for attending college in the 2014-2015 school year.
It is not required that projected resources and expenditures balance.
