The Armenian Genocide 1915 – Centennial Commemoration in Vancouver 100 Years Later Events scheduled for April 19th – 25th, 2015 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sunday April 19th, 9 am, Vancouver Sun Run, downtown Vancouver Support or join the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee Vancouver Sun Run Team members as they run and walk in memory of our Genocide victims. Sunday April 19th, 5:30 pm, St Vartan Armenian Apostolic Church Joint Divine Liturgy and final Requiem Service. Followed by Madagh, served at Setrak Kalpakian Hall by Church Ladies. 5:30 pm - 1260 West 67th Avenue, Vancouver, BC Tuesday April 21st, 10 am, Parliament Buildings, Victoria, BC 10 am - Official proceedings in the Legislative Chamber will include a short ministerial statement from the government and a responding support statement from the opposition. 12 pm - The Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of Canada will host a commemorative event in the Memorial Rotunda inside the Parliament Buildings. All 85 MLAs (48 Liberal, 34 NDP and 3 Independent) including the Premier and cabinet ministers have been invited to attend. Thursday April 23rd, 6:30 pm, St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Church 6:30 pm - Gathering at St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Church for Joint Prayer and ringing of the bells. At precisely 19:15 (7:15 p.m.) Armenian Churches around the world will ring their bells a hundred fold on the occasion of the canonization of our martyrs. Friday April 24th, 4 pm at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Georgia St. at Howe. **3-4 pm travel to downtown Vancouver Art Gallery ** (see end of document for instructions) Feel free to encourage friends, family and acquaintances to join us. 4 pm – Gathering and commemorative readings and music 5 pm – Speeches from federal, provincial and municipal politicians and dignitaries 6 pm – Commemorative walk from downtown Vancouver to Armenian Genocide Monument located at Mountain View Cemetery, Fraser Street near 41st Ave. The Armenian Genocide 1915 – Centennial Commemoration in Vancouver 100 Years Later Events scheduled for April 19th – 25th, 2015 (continued) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Friday April 24th 9 pm – Ceremony at the Armenian Genocide Monument at Mountain View Cemetery, adjacent to Celebration Hall. Access from Fraser Street near 39th Ave., or 41st Avenue west of Fraser. 11 pm – 8 am April 25th – ***Hsgoum*** (overnight vigil). A prayer service will be offered around midnight. A recording of the sanctification of our martyrs from April 23rd in Armenia will be viewed. Badanis and Youth will also contribute to the overnight programs. Saturday April 25th 10 am, Mountain View Celebration Hall - Armenian Genocide Monument 10 am – Joint Divine Liturgy **Transportation between Mountain View and downtown Vancouver** For those who will be participating both downtown and at Mountain View, it is recommended to do the following (allow one hour for transportation): Park cars inside or near Mountain View Cemetery Take 41st Avenue bus (Bus 041) south to Cambie Street Take Skytrain from 41st and Cambie (at Oakridge Mall) to downtown Vancouver City Centre Station Short walk from Granville and Georgia to Vancouver Art Gallery. ***For those wishing to participate in Hsgoum (overnight vigil)*** There are indoor accommodations and washrooms at Celebration Hall. Please bring your own sleeping bag.
