HONORARY ASSISTANT COACH, North Gloucestershire U16s ROLE DESCRIPTION REPORTS TO: Head Coach KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Gloucestershire U16s Team Manager and Head Coach; GRFU Coaches & Medical support staff; Gloucester Academy Manager & Coaches. NATURE & SCOPE OF JOB: The post-holder will lead the coaching team to plan an annual coaching programme that provides a positive and successful playing environment for players to progress from County to England levels. Provide high quality coaching to community rugby-based players to enable them to perform at their optimum. Players in the U15s Developing Player Programme (DPP), in previous season will provide the base of the U16s squad. An inter-district schools tournament will be run to identify late developers, newcomers to the area, and give a second chance for those exited from the U15s DPP the previous season. This will be followed by 2/3 County matches (A & B XV) against neighbouring counties, one of which will be against Bristol Schools & Clubs U16s. All this county activity in 4 week window after Christmas. Players are then selected for Gloucester Academy U16s and then from a series of inter-Academy festivals to represent England U16s. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure Gloucestershire RFU objectives for the U16s programme at county level are achieved by leading the preparation of the team’s coaching programme to develop the skills and understanding of the players. Ensure the players receive the highest quality coaching, preparation and feedback. Work in conjunction with the Team Manager, Head Coach & Academy Manager to facilitate the selection of players from Schools & Clubs in an objective manner. Evaluate all coaching sessions and games with the Head coach, coaching team and players. Provide constructive feedback to players to enable them to continue with their development. Attend the meetings of the U16s County & Gloucester Academy Delivery Team. Identify highly talented players who have the potential to move to Gloucester Academy side. Participate in an annual review of performance and commit to a programme of development provided by the RFU. Ensure that the coaching and playing squad present themselves as ambassadors for Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union and act within accordance of the Core Values of the sport Must be prepared to work the Gloucester Academy Developing Player Programme, where talented individuals are first identifies to participate in the county programme. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALITIES Hold a minimum of a RFU / UKCC Level 2 Coaching Qualification or its recognised equivalent and have current DBS clearance or be willing to go through the process. Demonstrates a track record of personal coach development. Articulates and delivers a clear playing and coaching philosophy that is in accordance with the objectives of the programme as set by the head coach. Self motivated, committed and enthusiastic about coaching rugby union Has significant experience of coaching young adults at club, school or college. Is strongly biased towards a Player Centred in approach to coaching Creates an environment that balances player development with team performance. Is able to lead & manage young players. Is able to articulate and deliver sound coaching processes relative to the programme as laid down by the head coach. Has an understanding of the RFU performance pathway for players. Sets high standards of personal accountability, reliability and responsibility for the players. ACCOUNTABILITIES: The post holder is accountable to the & Head Coach for the successful delivery of the responsibilities as outlined above. The post holder will work closely with the Head Coach, Gloucester Academy Manager, and Gloucestershire RFU.
