This is an outstanding opportunity to help grow a unique social business within the health and social care sectors.
We are a Registered Charity engaging with local authorities, Health authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups and
communities in Greater Manchester working with carers, disabled children and adults, and Young Carers.
We are looking for a Business Development Manager to develop and grow a number of exciting new projects for us.
You will be working with a well-established charity with an excellent track-record and reputation for quality and
consistency. We are ambitious about the prospects for further growth and to expand our reach and we need
someone with the strategic insight to help us capitalise upon the undoubted scope for our expansion.
We are open-minded about your precise background to date. You might be an experienced professional seeking a
shift in sector to ‘do more good’ alongside ‘doing well’; or a budding social entrepreneur, wanting to prove yourself
in a well-established setting. You will certainly bring a deep commitment to helping people and communities, with a
proven track record of successful delivery, and be drawn to the prospect of developing a unique social business. We
are offering a performance related incentive package to supplement the salary on offer linked to specific growth
targets.

1. Business Development

Develop and deliver Carers Trust in Greater Manchester’s strategy for new business development.
Help to increase the turnover of the organisation in particular areas over the next 3 years.
Develop an existing plan to generate significant income and raise the profile of the organisation.
Review and develop existing projects and work with the Chief Executive Officer to include these in future
plans.
Research potential strategic relationships that could be developed; manage effective partnerships with both
existing and new partners and funders.
Innovate and offer new ideas and approaches for developing Carers Trust in Greater Manchester building
relationships with other prospective business partners and with other network
Stay appropriately networked and keep abreast of trends, news, events and deadlines, so that all possible,
new or enhanced opportunities are exploited.
Ensure work is conducted within the context of the overall governance and management of the charity and
its long term strategy.
2. Project Development & Management.

Ensure that all new projects are cost effectively managed to a high quality, meeting the needs of the target
groups and the strategic focus of the Carers Trust in Greater Manchester.
Motivate and support all new projects, creating an environment in which participants are clear about their
individual roles and responsibilities, feel supported, are accountable to the project and are set achievable
and challenging objectives.
Oversee and where appropriate, develop a small team of staff, volunteers, apprentices or students in your
area of responsibility.
3. Partner Liaison, Fundraising and Communication.

Initiate and manage existing and potential strategic corporate relationships, together with the Chief
Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive.
Work effectively across the organisation to identify current funding requirements for core activities and
specific projects from foundations, trusts and statutory partners.
Help develop innovative approaches and sponsorship (and other) income packages.
Review Carers Trust in Greater Manchester‘s current communication tools and re-work the communication
strategy in line with key business plan principles.
Review existing individual giving systems and concepts and develop appropriate plans and strategies with
support from the Chief Executive Officer.
Carry out presentations and pitches to clients at meetings and dedicated events.
4. General

Play an active role in the planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting of Carers Trust in Greater
Manchester’s work.
Ensure all activity is recorded accurately on databases and evaluated accordingly.
Ensure all budgeting and follow up of project costs and negotiation of contracts is completed.

Relevant degree in business and / or marketing-related subject
Experience:

At least 5 years’ experience working in a business development role in a corporate environment or social
enterprise.
3 years’ experience in developing high-quality written content for different communication channels
including emails, adverts, presentations, etc.
3 years’ experience of developing and implementing partnership development activities.
Extensive use of project management approaches including setting project plans, budgets and schedules.
Experience in fundraising would be preferable.

effectively and with minimal supervision.
Ability to review and analyse budgets and financial reports to see implications in the implementation and
management of different projects.
An understanding of the issues involved in developing effective partnerships, and a good understanding of
the challenges facing our users.
Excellent word-processing and database management skills.
Terms of employment
•
This post can be based at any of Carers Trust in Greater Manchester local office in Bolton, Trafford,
Rochdale, Salford or Stockport. Home working will also be an option.
•
This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours a week.
•
There is a probationary period of six months from the date of commencement. The notice period for
termination of employment thereafter is one month for either side. Performance will be evaluated annually
upon an appraisal system.

Performance will be evaluated annually upon an robust appraisal system. Performance related pay will be
considered at appraisal stage and will be based on the increase of net income generated.
•
During the period of employment, the Business Development Manager is entitled to 22 days paid holiday per
annum + bank holidays. An extra day’s holiday will be provided for each year worked up to a maximum of 5
years.
•
The normal office hours of work are 9am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am-4.30 on Friday. However, some
evening and weekend working will be required. The manager is entitled to time off in lieu, provided that not
more than ten days may be accumulated at any one time.
