Eau Claire
DIOCESAN EVANGELISM
WORKSHOP: What does it mean
to share one’s faith with another?
Why would we want to tell others
the story of Jesus? What are
some of the ways of sharing our
faith that are effective in today’s
world? These are some of the
questions that will be posed at an
upcoming Evangelism Workshop on May 2nd.
Our bishop is encouraging all congregations to
send as many people to the conference as
possible in order to engage in this important
conversation. The presenters will be Father Mark
Ricker from St. Andrew’s in Ashland and Bishop
Allen who is a retired bishop from Western
Kansas, now living within the diocese. The
workshop will begin at 10am at Grace Church in
Rice Lake and will conclude no later than 3pm.
Lunch will be provided.
From, Father Art Hancock, Ascension, Hayward

the pastors and congregation at Bethany

the congregation of the United Presbyterian

Sunday, June 14th. We continue to welcome

Bishop’s Writings
April 20, 2015
Dear Family and Friends of the Diocese of Eau Claire,
There is something special about Christian Formation
and Church Camps. Young people can be part of
Christian Education in the parish year after year. What
is taught can be profound, but it is part of familiar
surroundings.
Church Camp is not familiar. It is mixed with outdoor
activities in which children and youth learn skills
ranging from boating to swimming to hiking and rope
climbing. In their midst are counselors who seem
more like big brothers or sisters than adults. They
share their faith stories, and the campers listen—
sometimes as never before. While it is important to
learn about the faith. Church Camp excels at
experiencing the faith.
I have three children, all in their 20’s. They are very
different from each other. One thing they hold in
common. Church Camp was the foundation of their
faith journey. It was Camp with its crazy songs, zany
counselors, and fun outdoor activities that Christianity
took hold. As I give thanks for what happened to my
children, I want the same for yours.
Give Camp Horstick a try. It takes place near
Drummond, Wisconsin. The dates are Sunday evening
through Friday morning, August 9-14. The cost is
$300, but there are discounts for families. It is $200
for the second child, and $100 for each child after the
first two. Give Camp Horstick a try. You won’t regret
it!
With my love and best wishes, I am, Your brother in
Christ,
Editor’s Note: Camp scholarships are available
for children who wish to attend from Grace Church.
