Of course in a business context it is an acronym for Initial Public Offering. In the MBASA context we use it for Informal Public Outing. Whatever you want to call it, they are a great way to unwind and connect with your fellow McCoy MBA students outside the classroom setting. Often there is free food and it’s always a good time. Please mark these on your calendar and try to attend at least one this semester. Available only at the San Marcos campus, this program will admit 25 students to a 42-credit hour, 22-month program which will include both afternoon and evening classes. The Tier I and Tier II curriculum will be exactly the same as the General MBA curriculum. The only difference will be a required Study Abroad (6 hours) and a required Internship (3 hours) in place of General MBA electives. This program is designed for students who wish to forgo the flexibility of the typical program in favor of an expedited, highly structured format. More information on the Full-Time Cohort MBA Program can be found on the McCoy website. In addition to the Full-Time Cohort program we are instituting a name change for the existing part-time/ evening MBA program to better differentiate between the two offerings. The MBA program we have long-referred to as our evening MBA program will now be known as the McCoy Flex MBA Program. Please note that nothing has changed with respect to the existing program. This naming convention is for internal and marketing purposes only and will not be reflected on your transcript or degree. These changes have been a long time coming and we are excited about finally being able to roll them out. If you have any questions please see the website or email Matt Painter, MBA Program Director, [email protected]. Congratulations to new McCoy BGS Inductees! We are proud to announce that invitations to join Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for business students enrolled in AACSB accredited programs, have been offered for the spring semester! Beta Gamma Sigma is the business equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa and the opportunity to join is only offered to top master’s students. Please join us in congratulating the following eligible McCoy MBA students for spring 2015: Shweta Prabhuram Alejandro Rivera Magnus Sickert Cameron Spencer Brian Thomas Mario Yepes Lopez Naima Hafeez Christopher Harder Amanda Harvey David James Anthony Pakutka Jorge Pena Being invited to join BGS is the highest honor that can be extended to a student at an AACSB-accredited university. Only the top 10% of undergraduate students are invited to join and only the top 20% of graduate students qualify. To give you an idea about how competitive the invitation process is, this semester the GPA cutoff for McCoy graduate students was 3.91! Congratulations as well to the following MBA students who joined BGS in Fall 2014: Teresa Berg Paul Brunner Matthew Byrnes Jared Graff Sara Gutierrez David Hanlon Cybele Hinson Paul Hoover Nathali Lopez Gioacchino Loquercio Fabio Martinez Anthony Merkel Craig Meurer Leslie Nesselhauf Derrick Payne Michele Risko Sarona Saadeh Nathan Sinclair Timothy Tarbell Jessica Thames Sean Williams Are Employers Looking at YOUR Facebook Page? In the age of social media employers are increasingly using platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as a research tool for potential new hires. What does your social media profile say about you? McCoy MBA student Naima Hafeez recently completed a research paper on this topic as a part of an independent study course with Dr. Biemer. In her paper, “Social Media and Recruitment: Everything You Need To Know for Your Job Search”, Naima examines the role that social media plays in a competitive recruiting environment. Click here to download a copy of the research paper. SAVE THE DATE FOR On Saturday, March 28, 2015, nearly 4,000 Texas State students, faculty, and staff plan to rise early and give back to the community they love by volunteering at over 250 jobsites in the San Marcos region! This will be Bobcat Build’s 13th annual event, and the number of volunteers, as well as jobsites, continues to increase. The program has grown to become the 2nd largest student-run, student-led service project in the state of Texas! Bobcat Build is a one-day tradition of service organized by the Bobcat Build Planning Committee as a way to say “Thank You” to the Hays County community for serving as a home to Texas State University. Please mark the morning of Saturday 3/28/15 on your calendar and join fellow McCoy MBA students in supporting this great cause! More information regarding meet-up times and work site assignments will be announced via email and Facebook closer to the event date.
