Position Announcement Executive Director, Groundwork INDY Groundwork INDY, Inc. seeks applicants for Executive Director Position: Groundwork Indianapolis, Inc. (Groundwork INDY) is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial and collaboratively-minded individual to be its first Executive Director. This individual must be passionate about programs and projects intended to result in the following outputs: engage youth in community-based environmental projects; turn brownfields (or vacant sites) into parks, trails, gardens and other beneficial uses; restore waterways that have been polluted or neglected; and develop farmers’ markets and community gardens in neighborhoods with limited access to healthy food Application Deadline and Important Information Employment type: Full time (40 hours) Location: The position is located in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. The Executive Director will, in cooperation with and reporting to the Board of Directors, lead Groundwork Indy in day-to-day operations, short-term and long-term planning, and be primarily responsible for obtaining funding to support the organization, its projects and programs. The Executive Director will manage start-up activities, fundraising, marketing, and plan and oversee project implementation, supervise staff, manage finances, and maintain and develop new community partnerships. Groundwork INDY will offer a competitive, non-profit salary commensurate with experience. Position Background: Groundwork INDY is based in Indianapolis, Indiana and is part of the Groundwork USA Network (www.groundworkusa.org). The national network was launched in the 1990s through a collaborative effort led by the National Park Service and US Environmental Protection Agency. Groundwork INDY will focus initially in the Northwest Area. Initial program areas will be Youth Employment, Greenways and Parks, Brownfields/Vacant Land, and Healthy Communities, supporting key priorities identified by neighborhood residents during the Northwest Area Quality of Life Planning Process, addressing priorities that match GW USA’s core mission: Lack of opportunities for young people – service, education and employment Widespread vacant properties and brownfields needing clean up and re-use Disconnected waterways, especially the Central Canal and the White River Issues related to health, focusing on nutrition and healthy food access Public parks that need to be restored and revitalized Responsibilities: Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and be responsible for: Organizational Management and Development Develop and implement projects and programs in keeping with overall strategic vision for the organization, Conduct the day-to-day business of the organization, including financial management. budget preparation and tracking, and other organizational administration, Identify, pursue and secure additional funding to support Groundwork Indianapolis. Manage compliance and reporting requirements, including quarterly reports to the National Park Service and other funders as required, Work closely with the Board of Directors to identify, recruit, orient and train candidates to participate as Board members and build a diverse, engaged and vigorous Board of Directors, Contract and manage professional consultants and other services as necessary for building Groundwork Indianapolis and implementing projects. Project and Staff Management Effectively manage the human resource function of the organization according to personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations, Recruit, hire and successfully onboard qualified staff from various venues with attention to diversity, Organize and implement projects, programs and events. Community Outreach and Public Relations Establish and maintain partnerships with public, private and non-profit entities, Active participation with the Groundwork USA Network, Coordinate the development of press releases and promotional materials, Serve as the authorized spokesperson for Groundwork INDY. Minimum Requirements, Experience and Qualifications: Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred, in a relevant field Experience with urban environmental improvement, brownfields redevelopment, community renewal, and youth-oriented programming preferred. Fundraising and Communication: Demonstrated experience in fundraising, including but not limited to, grant writing, major gifts, annual giving, special events, donor stewardship and recognition, Excellent oral and written communication skills. Partnerships and leadership development: Proven ability to build relationships among diverse groups, including youth, residents, community stakeholders, businesses and government officials, Proven success in developing community relationships and leveraging resources with local partners. Administrative Skills and Financial Management: Ability to manage and oversee program implementation, Ability to work in partnership with the Board of Directors, Strong organizational skills, ability to manage a small office and familiarity with standard reporting requirements (internal and external), Significant non-profit experience, with budgeting and financial management skills, Experience with short and long term strategic planning.
