From the Desk of the Acting-Principal
It is nearing the end of my first week filling in as actingprincipal for Mr. MacMillan. It has been a challenging
yet exciting week learning names, finding my way
around the building, figuring out the school schedule
and routines and generally immersing myself in the
school.
A couple of my early interactions with students were
highlights of the week. On Monday, as I was standing by
the front door one of the first students through the door
confidently walked up to me , introduced herself and
welcomed me to the school. On Wednesday, I entered
the gym to observe a class. The students welcomed me
into their class and asked if I wanted to join their game.
They made room in their circle for me and encouraged
me as I learned how to play. The mission statement of
Halifax Central includes the phrases: ‘…dynamic…safe
and respectful setting, in which each person's gifts and
talents are valued, self-confidence is cultivated…’ It is
great being in a school where the mission statement is
demonstrated in the actions of its students.
May and June is a busy time for a school and its
students. Maintaining a focus on academics is
important, while participating in the many ‘end of year’
activities. I look forward to working with the Halifax
Central students, staff, parents and community through
these last two months of the school year.

Late Arrivals
As a school we continue to work to address students arriving to school late. Besides missing class
time themselves, late students cause a disruption to their peers and the learning environment.
We want to thank parents/guardians for all the work you do to ensure your child arrives on time
each day.
Cell Phone
Cell phones are permitted to be out in class if the teacher has requested they be used for an
educational purpose. Texting and taking calls should not happen during instructional time when
students are devoting their time and focus to learning.
