Hamilton Woman Charged under Ontario SPCA Act for permitting distress and failing to provide
standards of care to three cats
Hamilton, ON (March 24, 2015) – On February 19, 2015, The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA charged a
Hamilton resident with four counts of animal cruelty under the Ontario SPCA Act.
The charges include:
 1 count: Causing an animal to be in distress
 1 count: Permitting an animal to be in distress
 1 count: Failure to provide adequate and appropriate sanitary conditions
 1 count: Failure to provide adequate and appropriate medical attention
On February 18, 2015, Officers of the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA made an unannounced routine
inspection on a Hamilton resident consistent with conditions of a probation order. The resident was
found to be in violation of the probation conditions placed upon her in 2014 as a result of a previous
conviction of animal cruelty. Three Domestic Short Hair cats were removed from the premises and
placed into the care of the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court March 25, 2015.
Two of the three cats have already been adopted into new homes, including one female who required
a leg amputation on removal; she recovered well and is adjusting to an active life on three legs.
Bella, a lovely black Domestic Short Hair female is available for adoption at the Hamilton/Burlington
SPCA. “We are excited to help Bella find a kind, loving, and stable forever home,” says Karen Reichheld,
Manager Animal Care and Adoptions.
