GETTING BACK IN THE GAME - Hillsdale Community Health Center
A
Notes from the President
couple of years ago we made a difficult, but well
considered decision to partner with Agility Health to
provide the day-to-day management for our inpatient,
outpatient, skilled nursing, and home care rehabilitation
programs. At the time, we were having repeated difficulties in recruiting staff and covering the existing demand
for rehabilitation services; this was even before the recent
doubling of the size of our skilled nursing units and the huge expansion of
our home care program. Agility Health have assisted us to build an exceptional rehabilitation team that now includes numerous physical therapists,
occupational therapists, speech therapists, and a decent size army of therapy
assistants who work with our patients. Our rehabilitation team’s goal is
always to assist individuals to achieve their highest possible level of mobility
and self-sufficiency. Over the last couple of years, we have seen tremendous
growth in the number of people we serve as well as the intensity of services
provided. If you have had the opportunity to work with our rehabilitation
team recently, you quickly feel the enthusiasm for excellence provided by our
team. Such enthusiasm is infectious and motivating. It is a great team that
will only get better!

GETTING BACK IN THE GAME
illsdale High School Junior and Varsity football player, Jamison Kies,
knows the importance of physical therapy. During one of the biggest
games of the 2014 football season, Jamison tore his ACL in his right
knee taking him out of commission for the remainder of the football season.
After testing and consultation, HCHC Orthopedic Surgeon Barry J. Collins
performed Jamison’s surgery. “Dr. Collins did an excellent job” says
Jamison. However, the surgery was just the beginning. Jamison spent
several weeks receiving physical therapy at the Hillsdale Community
Health Center’s Physical Therapy Department. He credits Mike Campbell,
AT-C, PTA for “Making my PT more enjoyable and getting me ready to
hit the football field once again.” Jamison will begin his Senior year back
on the football field thanks to Dr. Collins, Mike Campbell and the team of
caring professionals at Hillsdale Community Health Center.

elping people get back to
what they love to do is
what Reggie Kehoe likes
most about his job as an
Occupational Therapist at
HCHC. A 2007 graduate of
Pittsford High School, Reggie
earned his Bachelor’s of Arts
in Exercise Science from
Adrian College and then a
Doctorate of Occupational
Therapy from The University of Toledo before returning to Hillsdale County in July of 2014 as a full-time
Occupational Therapist.
“It feels very welcoming,” he says of the atmosphere
and staff at HCHC. “It has been great getting to
know people and see familiar faces.”
Reggie took advantage of HCHC’s Educational
Assistance program which helped him with his tuition
and now he is able to work with the people of
Hillsdale County, getting them back to what they like
to do and need to do. He says he did not know
much about Occupational Therapy before he went
into the field, but now he enjoys the holistic
approach of getting patients back to living life as
independently as possible.
Kehoe further stated, "Occupational Therapy is all
about the word ‘occupation’. Occupations are whatever
you want or need to do in your life that have the most
meaning and purpose to you. This can range from, but
is no way limited to, getting dressed and cooking a
meal to golfing and playing an instrument. Occupations
are things that anyone needs or likes to do.
Occupations make up everyone’s daily life and
Occupational Therapy helps you get back to doing
all those occupations that have so much meaning
and purpose to you.”
