Highlander Day is the biggest event of the year for students who are interested in attending UC Riverside. Whether you’ve been admitted already, or you’re just starting to look at colleges, you’re the star at Highlander Day! Use this agenda to plan ahead and make the most of your day. DEPARTMENT EXPOS and TOURS 10am – 3pm Bourns College of Engineering Expo and Tours Explore the Bourns College of Engineering inside and out. Go on 45-minute tours of the labs and other facilities. Get to know students from the college at the department fair, and discover our commitment to excellence in research and education first hand. Learn about student professional organizations, undergraduate research, and career development. HUB UPPER PLAZA College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Expo The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences invites you to explore our many majors and departments at our Expo. Academic Advisors, Faculty, and students will share information about their departments, majors, and the possibilities of the college. The staff and students from CHASS F1RST, Our First Year Programs office, will take questions about the transition to a research institution and share the courses and learning communities that we offer. BELL TOWER College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Expo The College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences Expo includes booths for each of the CNAS undergraduate majors staffed by faculty, advisors, and students, offering information, demonstrations, giveaways and brochures. CNAS academic advising and student success programs will also have booths. PIERCE LAWN School of Business Administration Expo Stop by the School of Business Administration Undergraduate Programs Expo throughout the day to ask questions about the program. BELL TOWER (EXPO) OLMSTED HALL, ROOM 2340 (OPEN HOUSE) Campus Tours 45-minute student-led walking tours of the campus depart every 15-20 minutes. STUDENT SERVICES LAWN Housing Tours (last tour leaves at 3pm) If you’re interested in seeing UCR’s three undergraduate residence halls, our 60-minute tour covers AberdeenInverness, Lothian and Pentland Hills! First come, first served! Are you a Transfer Student looking for Housing? Take a Tour of one of our Campus Apartments at Glen Mor. More than 1,300 fully furnished single-occupancy rooms. Come hear about the variety of workshops and seminars offered throughout the academic school year to help students develop a career plan for life in college and beyond. MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING, ROOM 116 Summer Sessions, Special Summer Programs, & the Academic Resource Center The Summer Sessions quarter helps students stay on track to a 4-year graduation! Students are smart to earn graduation credits during the summer when classes are easier to get into, when they can explore another degree, and when the campus is more accessible with fewer students. In addition to learning about the academic advantages of the summer term, you will hear about special travel programs and a unique opportunity for pre-college students. You will also learn about workshops and resources available at the Academic Resource Center to sharpen study skills and to keep students on the path to academic success all year long! This results in a vibrant culture that encourages interdisciplinary coursework and undergraduate research, which we call “the CNAS advantage.” Hear faculty and students talk about their experiences at this introductory presentation. UNIVERSITY THEATRE Welcome to the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (Freshmen) The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) is unique in its combination of the arts, humanities, and social sciences into one college! Our CHASS staff welcomes students interested in a wide range of majors to UCR and gives an overview of the CHASS First Year Programs. UNIVERSITY LECTURE HALL The Bourns Identity: A Look Into the Bourns College of Engineering The Bourns College of Engineering offers opportunities for its students to meet the challenges and solve the problems of our increasingly technological society. Associate Dean Chinya Ravishankar gives a detailed overview of what it means to be an engineer and why Bourns is the place to be. This session will give you an overview of the program, the benefits of a UCR business degree and the process through which students move from the pre-business major to the business administration major. Learn about the resources available to families of UCR students and ask any questions you may have regarding your student’s new home at UCR to a panel consisting of Undergraduate Admissions, Housing, the Parent’s Association, and UCR Alumni.
