Recent examples include involvement of students from St. Dominic school
leading Stations of the Cross and painting image of Christ at the Parish
Conference.
3. In what ways can we continue to assist and support our Pastor?
4. What should we be doing to invite and welcome those who have left the
church?
This question was raised by a parishioner. Do we know who these people are:
Have they switched parishes or left the church? Consider hosting an evening for
former parishioners, including thanks for previous work for Holy Cross.
Suggestion made to ask parishioners to submit names of family members who
have left. Could also examine last parish directory to identify families no longer
active in the parish.

5.3 Other: Question was posed from the floor as to why parishioners can no longer
rent St. Andrew’s gym (hall). Former chair of building and grounds outlined
decision made by council after school board announced that there were plans to
renovate St. Andrew Gym with changes to the kitchen space. It was decided
then that agreement with school would be terminated; renovations have not yet
begun.
Other issue was that there was no one to handle the rentals; anyone interested
is invited to come forward. Issue to be revisited by parish council.
Ruth also reported that the recent conference came close to meeting its goal of
being revenue neutral; while $2000 was budgeted for costs, the final expenses
will only be $100. Thanks to all those who worked to make 40 Days to Glory
such a success.

Discussion: Interparochial Fund clarified; we invest with the diocese and are able to
withdraw funds as needed. All parishes can access the fund at low interest rates.
Question re: drop in reserve fund, item 4 page 50 – new dishwasher was purchased
Correction item 6 page 52 – Papal Charities should be listed under Diocesan Collections
Special collections are not listed as ‘income’ since they are forwarded directly to the
Archdiocese.
Neil thanked Shane Schiissler for his hard work as bookkeeper for Holy Cross.
Thanks also expressed by Gerard to Josie Howard who assists with reports.
Ed congratulated Ruth, Nikki and Sr. Cora for the very thorough Annual Report
document.
Nikki commented on the challenge of losing contributing families. Thanks to finance
council members; any interested parishioners are welcome to participate; FINANCE

and to visitors from Little Flower Parish. (Approximately 50 people in attendance
today). Thanks to parish community. Encouraged all not to think just about our parish
numbers, but about God’s gift of grace. Stay positive, look forward and God will
provide. Think about what you can offer to the Church; little things can make a big
difference. Consider sharing your time and talents, giving an hour a month back to
God. Continue to pray together.

When we look back into year 2014, we have a lot to say and thank God for the many
blessings we have received. I specially thank you all HOLY CROSS Parishioners for
your wonderful service to our Parish Community. You are very active and your contribution in many areas of our Parish life was wonderful. You support this Parish
through your Prayers , through your donations and through your ministries. Our
Archbishop met with our joint Pastoral and Financial Councils. He was very Happy
about the progress we made within these 3 years. He expressed his gratitude and
thanked the Parish for its growth for these years.
The Parish has been blessed with committed and hardworking staff. I would like to
thank Martin K who recently joined as our new Pastoral Assistant, for his wonderful
support to me. I would like to thank Sr. Cora for her committed service as our Office
Manager. They are of great help for me to carry out the ministries in the Parish. I also
want to thank Geoffrey, who recently resigned and joined another job and also Jacob
Antony who recently joined as our care taker, for taking care of our building.
I also would like to thank all the parishioners who did various Ministries for the past
year, using their time , talents and treasure as good stewards of the Lord.
Especially the Choir Leaders and members, Liturgy Committee (Lectors, Communion
Ministers, Children’s liturgy Leaders, Sacristans, Altar Servers (Seniors and Young)
Hospitality Ministers, Environmental Committee, Ushers, Greeters, Collection Counter Teams, Communications and Public Relations, Youth, Deanery Rep, Lay Ministers
at Queen Victoria Estates and Victoria Park, Social Action Committee, Knights of
Columbus, Catholic Womens’ League, Pastoral and Finance Councils, Funeral Lunch
Team. I am so thankful for your time and the
commitment you make to Holy Cross Parish.
I would like to thank all the parishioners for your
generous donation to the commitment to the future
campaign which is our Archdiocesan Annual Appeal.
You have also made contributions to other Charities.
Thanks to all for your generous donations.
I would like to thank each and every member of this
Parish for your support and your prayers. I would like
to thank all the volunteers who sacrifice their time
and energy to serve our Holy Cross community.
Because this is our Parish.

Pastoral Office Manager’s Report
Having gone through 2 years of learning curves in office
management, working in the office this year 2014 has been a lot
easier for me. 2014 has been a year of consolidating, continuing
and sustaining the knowledge, skills, and practices in the areas
of weekly Bulletin preparation, day to day communications and
attention to parishioners and non-parishioners, AGM Report
preparation, support needed for Fr. Jose, other Staff, Council
and Committees, support to the liturgical life of the Parish
and day to day upkeep of the office. Correcting, encoding, and
completing our Parish Friendly Parish Files is still an enormous
task to be done. Working after office hours in the garden
during summer and fall is also a joy for me.
Work is never finished in the office. It will never be perfected as well. Every year and
season has its own peculiarities and needs and thus has to be addressed differently.
Sometimes, it is overwhelming. One thing is done, two or more comes. From time to
time, I had to remind myself that I can only do as much and have to learn how to
prioritize and find new and better ways of doing things in the office.
The danger of this stage of consolidating, continuing and sustaining is the tendency
of status quo, just to carry on the work and take things as mere work to be done and
not connected with Christ and His Mission.
In sustaining the fire of my vocation and in performing my task at Holy Cross
with love, service, and mission especially as a religious sister working in this office,
the teachings of two great spiritual teachers were a constant reminder to me.
Talking about Apocalyptic Spirituality as the Soul of Mission, Fr. Cristo Rey Garcia
Paredes, a well-known Spanish Theologian and our teacher in Mission and
Spirituality emphatically reminded us then that “we who have received the gift of the
mission, from Jesus and the Spirit, can lose the initial mystic passion and transform
the mission into a mere routine task”; that our “charismatic gifts and mission can
become routine, custom, and mechanical repetitions”; and that “if not attentive and
alert, our inner apostle gradually becomes just a worker, a manager, one who keeps on
repeating work, formulas, topics and ideas without a Soul.” Rumi, an Islam Sufi
affirms this in his teaching: “Wherever you stand, be the Soul of that place”.
I am happy to continue working with Fr. Jose, the Pastoral & Finance Councils and
their Committees, our two new staff: Martin and Jacob, and with all parishioners.
I remain ever grateful to the affirmations, encouragements, corrections, and support
I receive from all of you.
It is with the consciousness of Christ and His Mission and of being a “Soul” that I will
continue working and being your Pastoral Office Manager this 2015 and beyond
with joy and gratitude.

Pastoral Assistant’s Report
Hello to the parishioners of Holy Cross Parish.
My name is Martin Kondzielewski
th
and I began my work here on January 5 , 2015 in a part-time capacity as
Pastoral Assistant.
Here is some of my background. I came to Regina in 1983 to the University of Regina
for studies in film and television. I have been a long time member of Christ the King
Parish. I am married to Marie, an elementary school teacher at Ecole St Pius X and
we have three children; Cassandra in her First Year at Leboldus; Christopher in Grade
Six at St. Pius and Peter, Grade 5, at the same school. I was a television producer for
twenty years, a stay at home dad for ten years and a school bus driver for seven as I
finish out the school year. Marie and I have been a good team over the last 15 years,
going through the Familia Program, doing baptismal preparation and giving lay
services at an Extendicare home. In addition, Marie and I are the senior marriage
prep couple for Regina Catholic Services. We are currently leading a study program
on Catholism at Christ the King.
Sacramental preparation is my first focus at Holy Cross:
We will have had eight children from seven families complete their First
Reconciliation.
Two almost teenagers are working towards their Easter Vigil baptism
Seven children are currently registered for First Eucharist and Confirmation.
Archbishop Daniel Bohan will be here to celebrate Confirmation on April 29.
As I am so new I cannot share accomplishments as much as philosophy and dreams. I
believe that sacramental preparation is a family affair, with parents, all children and
any extended members (grandparents, god parents, all parishioners) being involved
in a child’s formation. I believe all members of a parish should be actively continuing
their faith growth on an on-going basis. I believe in “slipping in” catechism in any or
all circumstances. I will happily find and present materials to assist anyone in the
parish with their education of or growth in faith.
I believe being a Catholic means saying “Yes” to discipleship, (living the Word daily),
that this process is often difficult but always rewarding. In my personal life, my order
of priorities is my God, my family, my work.

Pastoral Council Chairperson’s Report
Greeting Parishioners and Fr. Jose:
As I write this report, I review the reports of the last three years: March 25, 2012,
“Stewardship and Vocations;” March 10, 2013, “Living Our Faith;” March 22, 2014,
“Moving Forward Together,” I am moved and proud of being a part of Holy Cross
Church. This is a community of Faith and Action and a community with a Vision.
I thank you-- the parishioners, volunteers, Pastoral Council, Finance Council and
Fr. Jose --for working together to make Holy Cross the strong, vibrant parish that
it is today.
Our progress has been on-going. Our Pastor, Fr. Jose, has been with us over these
three years, beginning here in October, 2012. His presence, support, practical day-today guidance and direction, and his spiritual leadership has been critical for our
personal and community spiritual growth. Thank you, Fr. Jose.
Our plans for Holy Cross have been guided by our Vision, Mission, Values and Goals
(p. 3), by the Archdiocese Pastoral Plan, the Archdiocese Parish Renewal Plan and by
our Three Year Strategic Plan (2012-2015). The specific goal of the Strategic Plan was
to build the community of Holy Cross over the three years in terms of population,
liturgies, ministries, activities, programs and finances.
In 2012, we registered 675 families; in 2015, we now have 400 families. This area remains a challenge for us this year.
Our liturgical celebrations remain well organized and inspirational throughout the
church seasons under the skillful direction and guidance of Connie Todd and her
committee members. We have maintained all the activities and programs over the
past three years (as illustrated in the many committee reports found in this AGM
Report). Last year, the Vocations Committee was activated; it has accomplished so
much in just one year – note the Families of the Month project and the “Vocation”
speakers who made presentations over a series of Sundays. Thank you, John and
Marie Lebersback. In 2012, the Stewardship Committee was created and I thank Dan
Devers and Chelsea Graham for all they have done—inspiring us “to live our true
vocations as sharers of our abundance and our lives” accompanied with videos and
presentations before Mass. The Cal Murphy Memorial Golf Tournaments, the Harvest Suppers, the Italian Nights, and this year, the Winter Meltdown Cabaret have
been highlights of activities and successful fundraisers for Holy Cross. Thanks to
Brenda and Eugene Achtemichuk. Another highlight on March 7, 2014, was the “40
Days to Glory” Conference with speakers Fr. John Meehan, President of Campion
College; Rhonda Hellman, and Darci Lang; music was provided by Journey Praise
and Vision; and we all enjoyed Fr. John Weckend appearing as Charlie Farquharson.
Thank you, Lori and Neil, for all the work you did for this conference! (Your networking is amazing!) Financially, 2012 was a challenge, but through the generosity of
parishioner donations, challenges were overcome keeping Holy Cross a viable, strong
and forward moving parish; 2012 ended with $665 in the black. 2013 was another
financially challenging year, and, again, through donations and adjustments, we
ended 2014 with a surplus of $29,996. Congratulations, Nikki and the Finance
Council members of being efficient stewards of our financial resources. This

provides only a capsule of the liturgies, ministries, activities, programs and
finances at Holy cross over the past three years.
In 2013, after some renovations to the office area and the lower level, the St. Kateri
Convent was opened as a home for Sisters Esberta Pugong and Cora Sanchez.
Sr. Cora, our Pastoral Office Manager, successfully incorporates her service of
mission with her office duties; we are blessed with having her presence at Holy
Cross.
Over the last three years, we have also reviewed and revised our Vision, Mission,
Values and Goals as well as the Holy Cross Constitution and Bylaws.
I thank the other staff-Martin Kondzielewski, for his work as Pastoral Assistant,
and Jacob Antony, in his role as caretaker ensuring we have a welcoming, clean
and safe environment. (Thank you for always setting-up the tables and chairs for
all the meetings!)
We continue this year with a focus on Youth and look forward to hiring a parttime Youth worker in June. I thank all the Youth who presently serve as music
ministers, readers, children’s liturgists, altar servers and who work at fundraisers.
You will always remain a part of the family of Holy Cross.
As we move forward, Pastoral Council will again begin planning strategically
for 2015 -2018. I encourage you to participate by bringing forward your vision
and recommendations.
As I read the 2015 Annual Report, I am moved by the FAITH that lives at Holy
Cross. Together, let us journey forward with joy and gratitude.

Liturgy Committee Report Continued..,
In November, as a committee we review our previous budget. We established
and submitted a new budget to Finance Council.
Our 2014 Christmas masses were held December 24 (8:30p.m.), December 25 (10:30
a.m.) January 1 (10:30 a. m.).
With the guidance of Father Jose, our committee continues to work towards making
the liturgical celebrations at Holy Cross Parish supportive to our pastor.
2014 is the second year of my second term and as per the constitution, my last year.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to all the members and

Liturgy Committee Report
Liturgy committee meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesday of the
month. Liturgy meetings for 2014 were held in March, May, September,
October, and November.
Sub-committee (Chair person) include: Altar Servers (Catherine Ardelan - resigned October -- position vacant), Children’s Liturgy (Chelsea Adams),
Ushers (Bernie Ryma -- resigned October -- position vacant), Liturgical
Ministries (Dolores Deis), Music Ministries (Erna Woynarski),
Environment (Wendy Kraushaar/Nikki Hauck), Lay Ministries (vacant).
All committees welcome new members.
Office manager, Sr. Corazon Sanchez, provided assistance to the liturgy committee as
needed. Thank you, Sr. Cora, for all your help.
Mass celebrations at Holy Cross in 2014 were held Sunday 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and
week days on Thursdays and Fridays at 8 a.m. Fr. Ken Koep and Fr. Marcel George
continued to assist Fr. Jose with masses at Holy Cross and Little Flower Parish as
needed.
2014 Lenten preparations commenced immediately following the 2013 Christmas
season. Stations of the Cross and mass were celebrated each Friday during Lent at
7 p.m. following the K of C Poor Man’s Supper. Groups that led the Stations were;
Knights of Columbus, CWL, Bible Study Group, Spiritual and Education, Youth/Altar
servers, and Parish Council. Ash Wednesday mass (7:00 p.m.). Triduum masses:
Holy Thursday (7:00 p.m.), Good Friday (Stations of the Cross 2:30 Service 3:00 p.m.),
Easter Vigil (8:00 p.m.), Easter Sunday (9:30 a.m. only).
Chairperson and committee members attended workshops for Lent/Easter (Feb ) and
Advent/Christmas (Oct) and Reader/
Lectors (March).
October saw Sr. Mel Hruska, convene a
workshop at Holy Cross for Lector/

All Soul’s Memorial Mass was celebrated
on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at the
5 p.m. mass. It is a truly unique and
memorable celebration of life.

Spiritual and Education
On April 11th, the Spiritual Education Committee led the Stations of the Cross.
On May 2nd, we had planned on having Sean Bloomfield, the producer of the documentary entitled ‘The Triumph’, give his testimony and then we were to view another of his
documentaries entitled “If Only We Had
Listened.” Unfortunately, at the last
minute we found out he was unable to attend due to many unexpected hurdles. We
had a good turnout from various parishes in Regina and, fortunately, we were able to
find a copy of the DVD, so we were able to at least view the documentary and then we
served coffee and goodies afterward.
On August 10th, we once more took a bus of people on a little pilgrimage to Our Lady of
Lourdes Shrine at Kronau. We had a better turnout this year with 20 people enjoying
the day.
In September and October, we co-hosted a book study of Pope Francis’ book ‘The
Gospel of Joy’ with Little Flower Parish. We had 9 participants and all found it very
interesting.
In October, we once again hosted Children of the Eucharist. It was well attended and
we were pleased to see some Grandmothers there with their Grandchildren. The
Filipino Children’s Choir led the singing and Sherry Parker’s Children led the people in
saying the Holy Rosary.
On November 12, we handed out free CDs entitled ‘Confession’ by Father Larry
Richards and asked Father Jose if he would be willing to be in the confessional for a ½
hour before Masses during the month of September.
On Monday, December 8th, we hosted ‘Popcorn & a Movie’, showing the movie Mary of
Nazareth at both 1:30 pm and 7 pm. Both viewings were well attended and everyone
enjoyed the movie (& the popcorn!)
On January 24th, we held another DVD presentation of speakers from the Marian
Eucharistic Conference held every year in Winnipeg. We viewed two talks by Father
Giordano Belanich, founder of Croatian Relief Services, an outreach that feeds and
clothes the poorest of the poor in many different countries. We were happy to have 16
brave souls venture out on a very icy day to enjoy the talks with us.
Throughout the year, we purchased many books and DVDs for our library, as well as
two bible study series. We will be holding the Mary series in April and May and the
Book of James in early fall.

The responsibility of the Hospitality Committee is to:
ensure a welcoming environment is maintained in our parish,
encourage community participation through special events which encourage
fellowship,
encourage a sense of belonging and relevance for all who choose to be part
of our parish, and
provide opportunities for the community to celebrate our Family of Faith.

Pro-Life Report
Though there has been no Pro-Life representation on Pastoral Council for a
while, there are interested parishioners who have followed family matters
reported in Catholic media and periodically had information that affects our
lives and faith as Catholics published in our church bulletin. Others have
highlighted the fact that Canada has had no law restricting abortion for
27 years by providing the green ribbons for us to wear on the date of this
lamentable decision, January 28. There are other occasions where we have
offered support to Sask Pro-Life and Regina Pro-Life at public sidewalk
events drawing attention to “Abortion Kills a Baby” and “Silent No More”;
prayers of “40 Days for Life” during Lent; crisis pregnancy organizations;
pro-life organizations and media, and more.
With the Culture of Death, as Pope St. John Paul II named it, all around us –
abortion any time for any reason, and now euthanasia and doctor-assisted
suicide in the same position as when the abortion law was struck down in
1988 - it is imperative that we pray and take action in this war against life. It
takes faith and good works to make a difference [St. Paul]
.
We sincerely hope that someone or some group will feel called to step up and
provide new leadership and enthusiasm for this most important area of our
lives and our culture. It affects us all – those who may be considering abortion, those who may be on the receiving end of end-of-life decisions, and
doctors who are being pressured – even by our own Saskatchewan Medical
Association – to provide or recommend abortion or euthanasia against their
faith and conscience.
To kill an innocent life is murder - #6 of the Ten Commandments.

Deanery Representative Report
In early spring, the Deanery Pastoral Council took out 3 placements of an ad
in the Leader - Post
, listing the Mass times for the Triduum and reconciliation services held before Easter.
On Saturday, May 10th, the Deanery Pastoral Council hosted “The Spirituality of Pope Francis”, with guest speaker Father Felix Just, whose main ministry is providing adult biblical education, faith-formation and biblical/
spiritual retreats. This event was held at St. Martins Parish and was well
attended.
On October 25th, we hosted a “Growing/Evangelizing Our Faith” conference
with guest speakers Dr. Rice and Archbishop Emeritus Jim Weisgerber for
the morning sessions and Marian Grady, Bobbi Yanko and Eric Gurash for
the afternoon sessions. The event was held at CTK and had an attendance
of 80 people.
We will be holding a Lenten Retreat from March 7 – 12 held at Holy Trinity
Parish. The retreat leader will be Father Ben St. Croix from the Companions of the Cross in Ottawa.
We will also be holding a Stewardship Conference in October 2015, at
St. Cecilia, led by Ed and April Laughlin.
It is our goal to present an event in both spring and fall every year,
alternating between missions/retreats and conferences.

Social Action Report
Jesus has identified Himself with all persons who are hungry, naked, homeless and
imprisoned. To ignore them is to ignore Jesus.
Our committee, now active in our parish for 36 years, has tried to identify with Jesus’
poor in the following ways:
Food for the Hungry
Food Bank collection continued for the 32nd year. Emergency food was given out
from the office to families in need when the Food Bank was not available.
Grocery Vouchers were given to families in need and city bus tickets given to
persons when transportation was needed to get food.
Christmas Food Hampers/Gifts: The generosity of parishioners, CWL,
St. Andrew School, and many volunteers made it possible to assist 39 needy
families in Regina.
Annual Donations:
1. Rainbow Youth Centre for “Meals for Teens.”
2. Home Economics for Living for the self-help program.
3. Canadian Food for Children for food shipped directly to 3rd world
countries including Moquegua, Peru (our orphanage).
Charitable Works
Sofia House (2nd stage shelter for battered women) was supported through our
annual donation.
Catholic Family Services received a donation for their Teen Parent Program.
Prairie Messenger subscriptions were given to newly married parishioners.
Sympathy Cards were sent to the bereaved families of our parish.
Donations were made to:
Early Learning Centre for poor preschoolers,
Disabled Women’s Network SK,
Esk-OMI Missions for aid to Northern Canadian Missions,
The Catholic Missions in Canada, and
Street Workers’ Advocacy Project, Regina.

Education
· Archdiocese Social Justice Department Newsletter is used to keep members
informed of Diocesan Social Justice policies/events. We, in turn, keep them
informed through our annual report. Members read materials recommended
by the department on issues of peace, justice, militarism, etc.
· Environmental Issues are important topics. Letters are written as well as donations given to appropriate groups.
· Promotion Programs:
1. Promote the Fall Action Program and Share Lent for Development and
Peace.
2. Inform parishioners of events, needs, work of the committee through
the parish bulletins and announcements.
3. Keep the CWL informed of our programs and activities at their regular
meetings.
Letters/Petitions
Letters to the Federal Government on such issues as:
Abolition of Nuclear Weapons
Opposing hate crimes
Promoting Water as a human right
Asking more to be done regarding violence against women.
80 letters were sent in response to Amnesty International’s request to help
uphold human rights, oppose torture and/or unjust imprisonment and executions.

Stewardship Report
“Do not bring with you the memories of the past. Let them serve as
your guide to keep moving on your journey. “
This is optimum in staying clean and fresh in all that we do for
ourselves and others. Every person should be born again on the first
day of January to start on a fresh page.
Selfishness, keeping God’s gifts to ourselves, is not learned behavior, we
are born with it. But when we accept Jesus as our Savior, He comes to
live in our spirit, and if we allow that renewed part of us to rule our
decisions, then we can overcome the selfishness. It doesn't go away,
but the Greater One who lives in us helps us overcome it daily (see Galatians 5:16).
Now, I haven't overcome selfishness entirely, and I doubt anyone else has either. Even
the apostle Paul, one of the greatest Christians who ever lived, had trouble overcoming selfishness. Learning to live unselfishly was a journey for him, just like everybody
else. He said that he had to "die to self " every single day.
We are called to the same life. It may be hard, but we cannot live selfish lives and
expect to make a difference. We must die to self every single day. That may sound
difficult, but when you live with the life of Jesus inside you, He can renew you and
help you live the unselfish life.
Our monthly reminders will continue for the year and we plan on doing some bulletin inserts. Chelsea and I will be attending a Stewardship conference in Calgary this
summer, so we look to learn and share with Holy Cross our new beginnings with vim
and vigor, so to speak!
Stewardship is not for tomorrow or for yesterday; it is a way of Life and is for us to
share every day. Use your talents; we all have them, to make it better for yourself
and others.

Cal Murphy Memorial Golf Tournament
The 15th Annual Cal Murphy Memorial GolfthTournament was held as usual the
Sunday before Father’s Day, this year June 8 at Aspen Links Country Club in
Emerald Park. There were 114 golfers and 56 who joined us for the banquet only.
Again, as usual, there was much to be thankful for – good weather, lots of camaraderie, lots of prizes, wonderful volunteers, all the sponsors and donors (especially
our special ones from Holy Cross), a great golf committee, banquet consisting of
steak, baked potato and all the fixings, and a profit of $12,673.97.
Total funds raised for Holy Cross by the golf tournament since its inception 15 years
ago is $155,471.28.
A big thank you to Joyce Murphy for all the hard work you and your committee do
in organizing and planning this event.
The Golfth Tournament for 2015 is scheduled for the usual Sunday before Father’s Day,
June 14 at Aspen Links.

Harvest Supper
The Harvest Supper was held on Sunday, October 26, 2014. As usual the event was a
complete sell out – 240 tickets per seating. Thank you to all who helped support this
event. This resulted in a profit of $5,537.96 for the parish. A huge “Thank you” to
Mike, Sherry, Harrison and Greer Andruschak, Aaron Liska and Trudy Rutten for the
excellent job of keeping the kitchen running so efficiently. A special thank you to the
CWL ladies who helped prepare the tasty cabbage rolls. As well, thank you to everyone who donated food, helped prepare and serve it, as well as set-up and clean-up of
the hall; without your assistance we could not have had such a successful event. Also,
a special thanks to all the youth of our parish, Miller and LeBoldus High Schools for
volunteering and helping out.

Winter Meltdown Cabaret
The annual spring event was not held in 2014. The event was rescheduled and held
on Saturday, February 7, 2015. A total of 82 people attended the event. Great music,
singing, food and refreshments was enjoyed by all in attendance. The fundraising
event raised a profit of $1,667.00 for Holy Cross Church.
A very big thank you to the organizing committee - Neil & Lori Garchinski, Brad &
Heather Holmes and their Families for a very successful event.
2013/2014 Sunday Missals
A total of 125 Living with Christ Missals were purchased and sold to interested parishioners for $5.00/Missal. Ten Missals were unsold. Missals were donated to
Queen Victoria Estates for their use at the Chapel.
A total of 25 Youth Sunday Missals were also ordered and handed out to all Holy
Cross First Eucharist candidates.
A total of $790.00 was raised from the sale of the Missals.
2014 Calendar Raffle
A profit of $1,222.63 was raised from the sale of the Calendars.
Thank you to all who purchased calendars. Also, thank you to Joyce Murphy for
taking on and organizing this event.
Thank you to all Holy Cross Parishioners for your support throughout the year. This
has allowed the parish to have another successful fundraising year. It is only with
your help and efforts that this can be achieved.

Vocations Committee Report
The Vocations Committee developed and implemented three goals through 2014 fall and
2015 Spring. These goals were identified by Fr. Jose, Sr. Cora and the full Pastoral Council
during the monthly Pastoral Council meetings.
The three goals consisted of:
a) Celebrate Vocations – Fr. Jose, Sr. Cora, single and family parishioners of the Parish
spoke about who they are, background information about themselves, when they
came to Holy Cross, how they contribute to the parish and how they practice their
faith and love of Jesus. They each delivered a presentation to the parishioners at
either Sunday mass at 9:30 am, 5:00 pm or both during October and November.

Families of the Month – Two families in the Parish are selected each month. The
selected families write up a narrative describing who they are, when they joined
Holy Cross Parish and what they have done and\or are doing to support the
Parish. At the first Sunday Mass of the month, the Vocations Co-chairs provide
an overview of the families to the parishioners. Sr. Cora prepares and posts the
family narrative and photographs on the Gerein Centre bulletin board for the
month.
Vocations Awareness in the Schools – St. Andrews, St. Dominic Savio and
St. Augustine school Principle were contacted by the Vocation Co-chairs to
promote ‘Vocations Awareness’. Fr. Jose and Sr. Cora offered to visit the schools
to do a presentation on vocations covering single, family and religious life.
The visits are arranged for dates in March for presentations to Grade 7 and
8 students, refreshments will follow.

The Knights have a special role and unique function in the church.
We are members of the world’s largest Catholic, family, service organization
with over 1.9 million Knights worldwide. There are over 10,000 Knights in

Catholic Women’s League Report
The Catholic Women’s League is the National Voice of the Catholic
Women of Canada. As a group, we promote and respond to political
and social issues that affect all Canadians in the home and world keeping in mind our Christian values. The council of women was established
on May 24,1961, at Holy Cross Parish, and it continues to maintain a
strong active role in the life of the parish and community.
Members serve as sacristans, communion ministers, lectors, greeters
and musicians as well as taking roles on Parish Council and serving lunch
following funeral services. They assist with special parish functionsParish Feast Day, Harvest Supper, Stations of the Cross and children’s
retreat luncheons.
In February, we collect donations of baby items for Birthright and
promote their baby bottle drive to collect monetary donations in May.
We also collect donations for Visitation House which come by way of
Fr. John Weckend’s marathon run in September. Funds raised through
Dollar-a-Month contributions, the December bake sale and raffle and
donations from funeral receptions enable us to contribute to the
parish and outside charities. We regularly donate to our annual church
golf tournament, Christmas hampers and offer a scholarship to a
worthy grade 12 student. Our outside charities are:

Santa Maria Nursing Home and the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre.

Every year we participate in the World Day of Prayer and support
Amnesty International by signing and sending concerned letters to
Governmental agencies in Canada and abroad.
CWL meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month with the exception of July, August, September and January. The Christmas Social
and June Dinner evenings are the major events of the year. This past
June, we honoured members with Long Time Memberships.

Finance Chairperson’s Report
We ended 2013 with a deficit of $8,292 and after a few months of battling a deficit,
we turned everything around and ended 2014 with $29,996 in the black! Thank you
everyone for a fantastic job! Thank you also to the Pastoral Council Committees for
keeping expenses down.
When you look at the Balance Sheet you will see a large increase in the Building
Fund over 2013. This was due to an almost $93,000 cheque from the Archdiocese
as our share of the proceeds from the sale of St. Charles Parish.
This is my last year as Chair of Finance Council. I have found the experience
challenging, educational, frustrating, frightening and always exhilarating. I will
remain on Council as past Chair. I would not have been able to do my job without
the dedicated members of the Council. I would like to thank all the members of
Finance Council for their commitment and dedication to their responsibilities on
the Finance Council. Our Finance Council members include Gerard Woynarski –
Administration Chair, Ruth Robillard – Pastoral Council Chair, Mike and Sherry
Andruschak – Collection Counters Chair, Dan Devers – Buildings and Grounds
Chair, Fr. Jose – Pastor, Judy Miazga - Condo Representative, Bill Shewchuk, Consultant, Don Kent, Wayne Rutten – Buildings & Grounds Consultants, and
Wendy Krushaar - Secretary. A special thank you to Sr. Cora, and Shane Schiissler
for their administration and accounting services throughout the year. Their
contribution has been invaluable and greatly appreciated. A special thank you to
Jack Herzberger - Buildings and Grounds Consultant, for all his work and
dedication throughout the year.
We started the 2015 budget process in October to allow the Committees of Pastoral
Council to set its goals for 2015. A joint meeting of Finance and Pastoral Councils
was held in January to make some minor changes. Fr. Jose approved the budget in
February.
Now that we have Archbishop Dan’s assurance that Holy Cross is not closing, we
can focus on keeping the parish an active, viable parish meeting its goals and mission. We know that our fellow parishioners will continue to contribute to the overall

Collection Counters’ Report
There have not been a lot of process changes to the Collection Counting Committee.
This committee has a dedicated group of parishioners who continue to volunteer year
after year.
The one problem that plagues this committee is recruiting new parishioners to help
with collection counting. We are down from 10 teams to 7, which has added to the
number of Sundays that each team has agreed to count.
We need more people to volunteer. You do not need to be an accountant. You just have
to have a desire to help. Mike and I will try to place you on a team that has experience,
but we are also looking for volunteers to take on the Captain or leadership role.
Collection counting, when done in an organized, concise manner, should take no
longer than 1 1/2 hours to complete. The Captain is also responsible for taking the deposit to the bank. Each team does two Sundays of counting back to back. Teams are
currently counting seven Sundays. You must also get a criminal record check.

Buildings and Grounds Report
Well, another year has come and gone, and we have had only a
few changes and additions to our Church and to our Parish
Family. We are getting new members in our Parish which is a
good thing and only reflects on the efforts put forth by each
and everyone here at Holy Cross and how we present out building and our surroundings to one and all. “If you build it, they
will come.” Remember this saying from the movie with Kevin
Costner-Field of Dreams? This holds true for us as we foster a healthy and Catholic
environment within these walls and this reflects on everyone. Thank you to Sister
Cora and Father Jose in leading us on the path to being better Christians and much
closer to our Lord.
All our utility issues have been corrected and we are sitting with a surplus in all
accounts at the Church as well as the condo. This is a good thing and lets us know
we are on the right path in doing our part to make our building more economical
to run even with the increases to power and gas, etc.
The issues with the unwanted guests in our church building seem to have been
eradicated, but we will find out more in the spring; another joint effort to seal the
outside of the building to make it a better environment for all of us.
We would like to say thank you to Geoffrey Decog Sr., our past caretaker for the many
hours he put in to make our building look awesome. Geoff has moved on to better
employment and we wish him all the best.
Taking his place is Jacob Antony, and we are grateful to have him with us at Holy
Cross. He lives just a few blocks from the Church, so we will see quite a bit of him. I
have met Jacob and his wife and I extend our deepest thanks to them for joining
our team.
I would also like to welcome Martin Kondzielewski, our Pastoral Assistant that joined
us in 2014.
The loft has been turned into a meeting room, so if anyone has a need for a gathering
when our other two areas are booked, use the loft. Use the Gerein entrance, not the
front doors.
The furnace had to be replaced in the condo and with the efforts of the B&G
committee, this was done by getting parts at wholesale and the collaborative efforts
of many. Thank you again.
I look forward to the New Year with the challenges that face us and know that it will
all be worth the effort because of the people at Holy Cross. We all have a voice and we
all have a say. Please contact us if you have a care or a concern regarding Buildings
