We at the Norwegian design office Anti wanted to use our experience and knowledge of design to create our own brand - a brand that reflected our love of fashion, of graphic design, and which reflected the unremitting darkness that is at the heart of the Norwegian identity and is the seat of true Black Metal. Anti Sweden is that unholy creation! We are aiming to once again take rebellion back to black jeans! As Norwegians we dare to challenge our bigger neighbors, Sweden, who are renowned worldwide for their recognisable Scandinavian brands, notably Acne and Cheap Monday. With Anti Sweden we are now taking up the friendly fight that has existed between our two countries ever since the liquidation of the alliance in 1905. While minimalism is at the heart of both Scandinavian countries, we Norwegians embrace the dark and the occult as central to our identity. Anti Sweden is Black Metal going fashion. • Distribution channels in Finland: – Fashion store Helsinki10, Eerikinkatu 3, www.helsinki10.fi • www.antisweden.no Anti Ink: True Norwegian Black Jeans Designers Fredrik Melby & Kjetil Wold Fredrik Melby • Born: 1980 • Education: Westerdahls School of communication, studio 3 • Awards: multiple prizes in prestigious competitions like Gullblyanten, Visuelt and FWA within the field of graphic design and communication. After graduation in 2005 I started working in my studio in central Oslo. I design and make all the products myself and sell my products to various design- , interior- and fashion stores across Norway. In all my work I am inspired by functionality, quirky details, a well functioning concept, nature, life surrounding me. My products are characterized by simple, clean lines, with subtle details. These have more often than not a functioning aspect to it as well as the decorative. I’d like to challenge people's idea of what tableware is and can be. When approaching my design I want people to be intrigued, surprised and that they think twice about how it is made. The models are made in plaster on the lathe, and then altered by hand. I find that this gives my design the originality I search for- I pursue a touch of the handmade. The products are all made of slip casted porcelain, glazed and fired to 1260 degrees. In 1999 they accompanied me to a rainy Paris. Wearing Chuck Taylor’s Converse and galoshes, my footwear became the subject of many jokes around the art school I attended. Later, while living in New York, I blended in with an image-conscious culture that defied slushy streets, freezing winds and pouring rain. Naturally, this resulted in a lot of discomfort and many ruined pairs of shoes. A few more Manhattan winters went by while I searched for the right product before I finally took matters in my own hands and decided to develop SWIMS - The Modern Galosh! A stylish solution, embodying the essence of practicality: Wear your favorite shoes, slip on SWIMS when the weather is rough, slip’em off when you arrive at your destination.
