Hello Parent(s) / Guardian(s),
Please keep the top of this letter for future reference and have your student return the bottom portion.
Welcome to the Third Trimester / Spring Trimester! My name is John Mark Ellsworth, and I am
your student’s teacher in U.S. History (B). Beth Boyd is the academic coach for my classes, and she is
ready to support students that need additional assistance. We are excited about working with your student.
U.S. History (B) is the second part of our U.S. History course. It begins with the study of American
history related to World War II and continues with the study of American History through about the 1980s.
U.S. History is required by the state of Michigan, so all students must earn credit in both parts of the
course, U.S. History (A) and U.S. History (B), in order to graduate.
Communication is important. I will communicate with you, and I will do that in a variety of ways.
I work hard to keep my PowerSchool grade book current so that you and your student know where
things stand; please feel free to check grades and attendance at https://ps.glcomets.net/public/.
I will use PowerSchool to send out periodic email updates about what is going on in class and with other
information. These are great for starting conversations with your student or reminding your student about
quizzes and other things, plus they provide you a glimpse inside your student’s day at Grand Ledge High
School. If you have an email address, please be sure it is in the PowerSchool system.
I also will use Remind (formerly Remind 101), a one-way text messaging system that keeps all personal
information completely confidential. Remind is a free service for parents and students to sign up for, but
standard messaging rates apply for all messages received. While my target audience for Remind messages
is the students (to remind them about homework, quizzes, and whatnot), you may find these reminders
useful too. So, feel free to sign up; the directions are on the back of this letter.
Another communication tool I use is my website: http://iComets.org. Lots of resources are available to
help your student on my website, and your student will be using it to do an online assignment for each
chapter. I also created a page especially for you: http://iComets.org/parents.
Communication flows two ways, though, so feel free to email or call me; my contact information is
below. Please do not hesitate to email or call with questions, concerns, comments, or compliments.
Finally, THANK YOU for taking the time to read this letter and for supporting your child’s education!
Sincerely,
