What is OASIS? OASIS is an interdisciplinary approach that emphasizes personhood over pa enthood. Par cipants will learn the innova ve, non-pharmacologic focused OASIS curriculum designed to help staff meet the needs of residents with demen a. This unique, resident-centered approach to reducing an psycho c medica ons focuses on helping all nursing home staff develop and refine behavioral strategies that will improve quality of life for residents and job sa sfac on for staff members. This all-day session is a Train-the-Trainer, and at the conclusion you will have the necessary tools and knowledge to implement OASIS in your facility. Speaker
Michelle Champoux, LICSW, is currently the OASIS Coach for Vermont’s OASIS Ini a ve to safely reduce the off-label use of an psycho cs in demen a care. She has been suppor ng the OASIS Teams in Vermont’s Nursing and Residen al Care Homes as they deliver OASIS training and implement new evidence-based prac ces for non-pharmacological approaches to demen a care. She has a background in mental health, medical and long term care social work and has extensive experience designing and facilita ng clinical, ethics and educa onal consulta ons and workshops. She was the project director of Vermont’s BeƩer Jobs BeƩer Care, a three year long term care workforce ini a ve involving curriculum, legisla ve and organiza onal development and consulta on.
