Internship Program
Position Title: Farmer Program Intern
Position Period: May – October (start date no later than 5/18, end date negotiable)
Hours: Flexible depending on project needs, generally 5 to 10 hours per week on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays
Stipend: $725 for 100 hours, with a possible extension of an additional $500 and commensurate hours
Academic Credit: Available with appropriate faculty sponsorship
Organizational Background: FairShare CSA Coalition, a Madison, WI-based nonprofit, supports and connects community supported
agriculture (CSA) farmers and consumers. Through outreach and education we foster a cohesive network of committed farmers and
community members who believe CSA is the backbone of a vibrant, just and healthy food system where all families have access to
locally produced, organic food and have strong connections to their farms, food and community in Southern Wisconsin.
FairShare Internships Overall: FairShare interns are key members of our team and assist with all aspects of the organization’s work,
including outreach campaigns, administrative tasks, event coordination, resource development and research. Interns may attend
relevant conferences, workshops, and meetings to network with others working within the food system and to increase knowledge.
Interns gain valuable community organizing experience and contribute to critical programs that work to build the strength and
vitality of our local farms and increase access to healthy food.
Farmer Program Responsibilities:
 On-Farm Research on Cover Crops as Living Mulch under Vegetables – assist with planting, maintenance, harvest, and data
collection on this SARE funded project taking place on 4 FairShare farms
 Farmer Program Evaluation and Direction – review, organize, and summarize 2014 evaluation data, recommend future
programs based on that data, and assist in setting up and publicizing 2015 workshops and field days
 Farmer Resources - solicit, edit, and post info sheets on the FairShare website and (possibly) develop a YouTube channel or
other similar resource for sharing farmer vetted technical videos
 Farm Information Management – assist with updates to the pickup locations map and the farm list
Overall Organizational Responsibilities:
 Support FairShare events and presentations as needed in coordination with staff
 Contribute to FairShare’s electronic newsletter
 Manage Info email account
 Update website events calendar
Qualifications:
 Internships are open to students and community members
 Interest/experience in vegetable production, local food, sustainability, and/or sustainable agriculture
 Interest/experience in working outdoors in all conditions
 Excellent written/oral communication skills
 Experience with excel and/or google forms
