As an extension of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Christian Day School, our mission is to welcome children into a Christ-centered community where all children are encouraged to grow in Christian citizenship. We welcome all campers to enjoy a safe and nurturing environment where they can explore their creativity and have fun while growing in Christ. Vacation Bible School Facilities VBS has been a long-running summer religious tradition here at Immanuel Lutheran Church & Christian Day School. More information can be found under Week Three. If you have any questions about VBS, please contact the church office at 203-748-3320. If you choose to register for VBS through Camp Immanuel, there will be an additional waiver to sign. Air conditioned classrooms Kitchen Playground Music Room Camp Immanuel Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade Program Camp Immanuel offers a variety of courses for children ages 3 (Pre-K) through 8th grade. All children must be potty-trained. Campers will be broken into groups based on age and enrollment. Each class will incorporate a variety of crafts, sports, and culinary delights that match the theme of each week. Pizza will be served to our full-day campers on Fridays as a special ending to the week. Camp Immanuel will run in two sessions each week. The morning session will take place from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. There will be a lunch and recess break from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm for any campers staying for the full day. The afternoon session will run from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. VBS will take place during the week of July 6th-10th from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. We also offer an extended day morning and afternoon program that is available at a separate rate. (Morning care must be scheduled in advance.) Please bring your child into the building to be checked-in with a camp counselor. Any campers arriving prior to 8:50 am must be dropped off in the Extended Care room. The morning session ends at 11:30 am and pick up will be through the middle doors of the school. The afternoon session drop off is at 12:25 pm at the playground when weather permits. On rainy days, please bring your child to the lobby. Pick up for the afternoon session is at 3:00 pm and will be through the main doors. Any campers who are not picked up by 3:15 pm will be brought to the Extended Care room where they will need to be picked up no later than 6:00 pm. Campers will be charged for time spent in Extended Care before 8:50 am and after 3:15 pm. (Please note: ILC&CDS will be constructing a gymnasium over the summer in the field adjacent to the playground. This may cause weekly changes in procedure. Advanced notice will be provided.) The morning program is available by appointment only, but can be used from 7:30 am until 8:50 am and features board games, arts and crafts and Legos®. The afternoon program is open from 3:15 pm until 6:00 pm and offers group games, recess, arts and crafts as well as snack. The fees are $8 for the first hour or any part of the first hour and $4 per subsequent half hour. Parents must ring the bell at the center doors of the building when picking up campers in the afternoon and will need to sign out their campers. Transportation No camper will be permitted to leave camp with anyone other than his or her parent unless camp administrators have been informed in writing. Please be sure to fill out the Transportation Release portion of the registration form. What to Wear Campers should wear weather-appropriate, casual summer clothing. Recommended clothing for campers includes shorts, shirts (with nonoffensive logos) and sneakers. For safety reasons flip flops or open toed sandals may not be worn (there are wood chips on the playground.) Sunscreen is a must for all campers. Please include a bottle of sunscreen in your camper’s lunch box labeled with his or her name. We are not responsible for any lost personal items. Camp Routines In general, morning sessions will be more structured, and afternoon sessions will be more relaxed. Fridays will be an extra special day each week. Pizza and dessert will be served at lunchtime, followed by some outdoor fun that may or may not involve water! It is a good idea to pack a change of clothes for these days! Camp t-shirts will be handed out, and all campers will have the opportunity to autograph each other’s shirts. Religion As a Christian camp, religion is an integral part of the day at Camp Immanuel. Each morning and afternoon session will start in the Chapel with devotions led by our camp staff. During the day our campers will participate in prayer at snack and lunch time. Food Children attending a half day of camp should bring a snack and a water bottle. For our full-day campers, please send 2 snacks, one each for morning and afternoon, as well as lunch and a water bottle. All food should be in an insulated cooler with the camper’s name on it. Pizza will be served on Fridays during each session. If your child does not eat pizza, please provide him/her with lunch from home on Friday. Microwaves are not available. Prohibited Items An integral part of Camp Immanuel is making new friends and building relationships; therefore the use of hand-held games, electronics, tablets, cell phones and iPods are strictly prohibited. Fees, Cancellations There is a $50 non-refundable deposit that is charged per child at the time of registration. The remaining balance must be paid prior to the start of the registered session. Any cancellations made after the start of camp will incur a $25 fee plus the $50 non-refundable deposit. Termination Camp Immanuel reserves the right to remove any camper from our program for repeated behavioral issues. Refunds are at the discretion of the camp administrator. Non-Discrimination Policy Camp Immanuel does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, color, religion, political affiliation, age, gender or sexual orientation in any of its educational or enrichment programs, activities or admission policies. Week One (June 22 – June 26) Week Two (June 29 – July 3) Blast off to Summer America is Awesome Morning Session: (9:00 am – 11:30 am) Everything is Awesome with Legos®- ($15 materials fee) This session will give campers a chance to bring their creative whims to life with the familiar hands-on satisfaction that only Legos® can provide. Our challenges during the week will include building (and racing) self-propelled cars and creating a large-scale scene as a whole class. Legos® are provided, complete with extras of the most highly prized special parts! Morning Session: (9:00 am – 11:30 am) Me and My American Girl®- This session will be a week-long celebration of what it means to be an American Girl®, both today and in the past. Girls and their dolls will be busy spending time learning about the powerful and beautiful females who have shaped our history while also finding time to relax. (Every lovely lady needs her luxury time!) and pamper themselves and their dolls with an elegant tea party, a cozy pajama party, creative clothing projects, and more. Campers are encouraged to bring a doll (of any type or brand). Cookie Club- ($10 materials fee) Campers in the Cookie Club will Under the Sea- This session is ideal for any camper who is try their hands at whipping up a variety of culinary delights, including both time-tested favorites and daring new concoctions! Campers will dabble in the science behind cookies, experiment with the artistic side of decoration, and, of course, indulge in their final creations! curious about our fascinating oceans! Campers will be amazed to learn new facts about some of the most majestic and mysterious creatures on our planet. We will spend the week entirely submerged in our watery wonderland, where we will celebrate the life in our oceans with games, crafts, and even a large-scale classroom makeover – be prepared to dive deep this week! Afternoon Session: (12:30 pm – 3:00 pm) Rockets, Comets & More- Our afternoon session this week will be a jam-packed explosion of early summer fun! We will experiment with things that fizz, bubble, and burst. We will “blow our minds” with stunning facts about outer space, and most importantly, ramp up the energy and excitement as we fly into summer in all its glory! Afternoon Session: (12:30 pm – 3:00 pm) Waterworks– This week’s afternoon session will be overflowing with all things water related! We will dare to dabble in some delightfully drippy science experiments, try our hands at a few wonderfully wet crafts, and, of course, have plenty of opportunities to get satisfyingly soaked with water balloons, sprinklers, and other beloved outdoor summer favorites. Getting wet is optional, but all campers should bring a bathing suit, towel, and change of clothes. Week Three (July 6 – July 10) Week Four (July 13 – July 17) Shark Week Art all Week Morning Session: (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) Morning Session: (9:00 am – 11:30 am) For our AM session this week campers will participate in Vacation Bible School, sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church. Campers will be organized into classes according to their ages. This year’s VBS theme is Camp Discovery: Duct Tape- ($15 materials fee) There’s nothing Duct Tape can’t At Camp Discovery VBS, kids have fun being kids as they explore the Bible, make new friends, sing songs, and learn how Jesus works through them in their everyday lives. This 2015 VBS takes kids on a high adventure to discover 5 Bible truths that excite and challenge them. Campers of all ages learn that God gives them the wisdom and the courage to step out in faith as Jesus works through them—whether they’re at school, playing with friends, or helping out at home. Get excited for a camping adventure that makes a lasting impact on kids as they sing songs around the campfire, act out Bible stories, make crafts, and eat tasty treats. fix… and there’s also (almost) nothing it can’t create! Campers for this session will use Duct Tape to fashion fancy pencil-top flowers, functional wallets, and several other creative crafts. Campers will be continually amazed by the endless possibilities with the world’s most fascinating tape! Claytastic- ($10 materials fee) Everybody loves things that “squish,” and clay is certainly no exception. Campers in Claytastic will make a variety of crafts, including handprint wall decorations, magnets, jewelry, and bowls. We will also explore the more scientific side of “clay” as we concoct our own playdough, pretzel dough snacks, and even experiment with the delightfully baffling “Oobleck!” Afternoon Session (12:30 pm – 3:00 pm) Afternoon Session- (12:30 pm – 3:00 pm) Shark Week Dun dun dun dun dun dun… shark week is here! We are excited to incorporate this popular cultural phenomenon into camp this year. Campers in this session will have fun playing water themed games and having fun learning the real deal about sharks as we celebrate the power of one of God’s most mysterious creatures. Arts & Crafts- ($5 materials fee) Campers in this general arts and crafts session will have the freedom to explore whatever type of crafts interest them. We will offer a range of activities not covered in the morning sessions; for example, watercolors, paper crafts, finger paints, pipe cleaners, and cardboard boxes just begging for an imagination to bring them to life. We will also offer some structured crafts such as tie-dye or t-shirt decoration. Campers will be encouraged to experiment and take risks as often as possible, all in the name of creative expression! . Week Five (July 20 – July 24) Week Six (July 27 – July 31) Super Scientists Noah’s Ark Morning Session: (9:00 am – 11:30 am) Morning Session: (9:00 am – 11:30 am) Mythbusters™- ($10 materials fee) This session will offer Animal Arts & Crafts- ($5 materials fee) This session is perfect campers a chance to let their curiosity run wild as we run our own series of experiments in the style of the popular TV show. Campers will be encouraged to ask lots of questions and make bold predictions as we go through each day. Do eggs really have thousands of tiny holes in their shells? What is static electricity and how can it bend water? Which side of your body is dominant? How can you blow up a balloon without blowing? Come find out the answers to all of these questions and more! for those campers who can always use one more adorable animal face in their arts and crafts collection. We will use a range of art supplies to make animals from caterpillars to octopi to owls, and campers can expect to take home a new craft each day. Some crafts will require following directions and some will provide a platform for campers to think as far outside the box as their imaginations will take them! African Safari- Join us during this session for a wild and What are You Calling Junk?- In this session campers will explore the world of possibilities that open up when we look at our “junk” in a new light! Campers will have fun learning how they can reduce, reuse and recycle to help take good care of God’s earth. We will also make unique art and compete in teamwork and logic challenges using all recycled materials. This is the perfect class for the camper who knows – or who could use a little hands-on reminder – that all it takes is a little imagination for one person’s trash to become another camper’s treasure. wonderful safari adventure! We will also go on our very own desert scavenger hunt, have fun practicing our best jungle survival skills, and go crazy with all kinds of games and simple crafts! Afternoon Session (12:30 pm – 3:00 pm) Bugs in the Backyard- Have you ever wondered who you share Afternoon Session (12:30 pm – 3:00 pm) Dirt- Our afternoon session this week is designed to allow campers to get delightfully dirty – on purpose! We will spend the week taking a closer look at dirt in its many forms. Activities will range from planting real seeds and playing with special sand (“desert dirt!”) to making delicious edible “mud” to forming our very own “fossils.” Please note that no camper will be forced to get dirty – we will have plenty of “clean” activities and outside exploration time as well! your backyard with? You don’t have to go far to find amazing animals - chances are there are more than you realize right here! Campers will spend some time getting up close and personal with some of the little critters who live in our area. We will learn fun facts about our little friends as well as learn how to be kind and considerate to the living things that share our space. We also agree to indemnify ILC&CDS for any loss which it may incur or damages it may be required to pay as a result of any claim which is submitted by or on behalf of our child. We authorize Camp Immanuel to obtain and consent to medical treatment for our child in any emergency or to take any other necessary actions for the safety and well-being of our child. We release and agree to indemnify ILC&CDS from any liability to any person arising out of good faith decisions made by the camp or the ILC&CDS pursuant to the provisions of this paragraph.
