Safely Archive Application Data for CostEffective Compliance, Data Management, and
Application Retirement
Informatica® Data Archive Advanced Edition is highly scalable, high-performance software.
It is designed to help your IT organization cost-effectively manage the explosion of data
growth and rationalize application portfolios in a wide variety of databases, data warehouses,
and enterprise business applications, such as Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Siebel,
SAP, and custom applications.
Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition expands on all the key features of Informatica
Data Archive Standard Edition by providing the capability to archive to an optimized file
archive and an archive database. This edition also offers comprehensive compliance
features. Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition is ideal for:
• Supporting regulatory compliance and data governance programs
• Improving database and application performance
• Reducing infrastructure and maintenance costs
• Retiring legacy applications
Partitioning and Archiving as Alternative Methods to Improve
Application Performance
With Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition, your IT team can define alternative
strategies for managing data growth, including automating complex partitioning and multiple
archiving policies, whether to another database instance or an optimized, highly compressed
file archive. The software allows you to easily and safely partition and archive data in data
warehouses and applications—including master, reference, and transactional data—and then
readily access it based on roles and responsibilities when needed.
Central Management of All Information Lifecycle Management Policies
With Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition, your IT team can manage all information
lifecycle policies—including any combination of smart partitioning and archiving policies—
to an archive database or to an optimized file archive centrally from a single console.
Archived data can be accessed seamlessly from the original application interface, or from an
application-independent discovery portal and standard reporting and business intelligence
tools. Retention policies can be assigned to different classes of archived data and purged in
a timely manner when the retention period expires.
Safe Application Retirement to Save Costs
Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition is ideal for retiring legacy applications by safely
archiving the data within them. Your IT team can eliminate the hardware, software, and
maintenance costs associated with legacy applications and reduce storage consumption—all
while preserving easy data access.

Informatica Data Archive
Advanced Edition
Key Features
In-Depth Data Growth Analysis and
Usage Monitoring
Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition analyzes
current and future data growth rates so your IT team
can understand which tables and modules occupy
the most space. In conjunction with Informatica Data
Warehouse Advisor, your IT team can continuously
monitor how data is used in the source system and
identify dormant records that can be archived.
“The $3 million annual savings EMC derives from
Informatica Data Archive is a phenomenal achievement,
and helps the organization cost-effectively manage data
growth while satisfying the requirements of the business.”
– Ramesh Razdan, Senior Director of Enterprise Technology Services
EMC Corporation
Smart Automated Partitioning
This edition automates database partitioning based
on business entities, placing records from related
tables in the same table space, not just individual
tables. Your IT team can leverage underlying
database partitioning functionality to manage both
partitioning and archiving from a central console.
Multiple Alternative Methods of Archiving
This edition archives inactive data in databases, data
warehouses, and enterprise applications to another
database instance or to a secure, highly compressed
file with up to 98 percent compression. It relocates
entire business entities with transaction and reference
data to a secure, highly compressed, immutable file
format for compliance archiving or legacy application
retirement. It enables autonomic schema change
management of the file-based archive.
Scalable partitioning and archive processes can
be managed centrally based on application-aware
policies across multiple databases, data warehouses,
CRM, ERP, and custom applications to manage the
overall information lifecycle. Data archive processes
can be simulated prior to actual execution to validate
archiving policies.
Informatica Data Archive analyzes data growth rates for table space, schemas, and modules across
applications to help your IT team manage data growth proactively.
Unstructured Data Archive Support
This edition archives a wide variety of file attachments
associated with database records. It also archives call
detail records from telecommunication exchanges,
converting them to an easily searchable structured
archive format.
Seamless Access to Archived Data
Your IT team can maintain access to archived data on
historical database instances from existing application
interfaces. You can restore an entire archive, selected
business entities, or archive snapshots when access
requirements change. You can view, search, and
report on data archived to file through a powerful data
discovery portal and existing reporting or business
intelligence tools.
This edition also offers a bundled reporting tool to
easily access archived data and define reports and
form-based UIs with similar look and feel as the
original application interface. It easily integrates with
any third-party archiving platforms, such as EMC,
Hitachi, and NetApp. This edition delivers high query
performance and scalability to end users without
having to tune the file-based archival store. Federated
search and access across production, database
archives, and file archives are available through the
Informatica Data Archive Federation Option.
Built-In Compliance
Your IT team can assign retention policies to different
classes of archived data and automatically purge
expired records on a scheduled basis, following a
review and approval process. You can apply legal
hold to records relevant to legal cases and audits to
prevent them from being purged when the retention
period expires.
The software retains all related records by maintaining
data and referential integrity. You control access to
archived data at the business entity and record level.
You can track all access, retention, purging, and
holds to archived data through audit logs. Metadata
extensions can be added to archived data to facilitate
case management, search, retention, and legal hold.
Your IT team can validate the completeness and
correctness of retired data easily using advanced
business rules with the Informatica ILM Data
Validation Option.
Comprehensive Set of Application
Accelerators and Metadata Discovery
Your IT team can deploy customizable business rules
and archiving policies using prebuilt accelerators
for many business applications, including Oracle
E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, and Siebel. A simple
graphical user interface is used for visualizing, editing,
and extending archiving templates (accelerators) to
build new models and customize business rules for
archiving custom applications. With the Informatica
ILM Discovery Option, your IT team can automatically
discover table relationships and business entities
through data profiling.
Broad Connectivity and Extensibility
This edition accesses and retires a wide variety
of databases, data warehouses, mainframes, and
business applications, including Oracle, IBM DB2, MS
SQL Server, Sybase, Netezza, Teradata, IMS, VSAM,
and JD Edwards.
“Informatica [Data Archive] has transformed our
production environment — lowering application total cost
of ownership, improving performance, mitigating risk, and
ensuring regulatory compliance.”
– Anil Roy, Director of Oracle Operations and Support
IKON Office Solutions

Improve Database and Application Performance
About Informatica
Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ:
INFA) is the world’s number one
independent provider of data
integration software. Organizations
around the world rely on
Informatica for maximizing return
on data to drive their top business
imperatives. Worldwide, over 4,630
enterprises depend on Informatica
to fully leverage their information
assets residing on-premise, in the
Cloud and across social networks.
With Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition, your IT organization can prevent data

Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition lowers data management and storage costs
by reducing the size of the production database, reducing storage footprint with extreme
compression in the file archive, and shrinking maintenance windows. Your IT team can use
the same business entity definition in application accelerators for partitioning, archiving to
the database or to the optimized file archive, purging, or retrieving archived data. When your
IT team moves less-accessed data to more cost-effective storage and server environments,
your high-end servers and storage are available for more critical needs. This edition reduces
software license and hardware expenses while controlling the amount of time and money
spent on backups, recovery, and upgrades.
Safely Retire Legacy Applications
With Informatica Data Archive Advanced Edition, your IT team can decommission redundant
legacy applications and mainframes while retaining complete access to retired data. Storing
