of an earthquake. If
anyone is indoors then
drop to the ground and
take cover by getting
under a study table or
other piece of furniture. If
there is no desk or table,
cover the face and head
with the arms and crouch
in an inside corner of the
building. If someone is in
outdoors move away
from buildings, trees,
street lights and utility
wires.
If in a moving
vehicle, stop as quickly
and stay in the vehicle. If
trapped under debris, do
not light a match and do
not move about or kick up
dust. Tap on a pipe or
wall so rescuers can
locate the person. Use a
whistle if it is available.
Shout only as a last
resort as it can cause
the person to inhale

Cryogenic
engine tested
successfully,
PM hails
space
scientists
New Delhi : In a major
milestone, an indigenous
cryogenic engine, that will
help India put satellites of
upto four tonnes in
geostationary orbit, was
tested successfully at
ISRO’s propulsion complex
at
Mahendragiri
in
Tirunelveli district of Tamil
Nadu. The powerful version
of the cryogenic engine was
ground tested at the Liquid
Propulsion systems centre
(LPSC). The test was
conducted for 635 seconds
and it was successful,

Piyush Goyal today said,

Government
is
committed to provide
affordable, 24 x 7 power to
all households of the
country. Replying to
supplementaries in the Lok
Sabha, Mr Goyal said an
efficient, resilient and
financially healthy power
sector is essential for
growth
and
poverty
reduction in the country.
He
said,
the
availability of quality,
reliable and affordable
power helps in the rapid
socio-economic growth of
the country especially the
backward region. Mr Goyal
said, generation capacity
addition has been planned to
meet the rising demand of
electricity in the country.
He informed the
House that based on
demand projection of the
18th Electric Power Survey,
generation capacity addition
target of 88,537 mega watt
has been planned from
conventional sources on All
India basis during 12th five
year plan. The minister said,

projects with aggregate
capacity of 57125 mega watt
are running behind schedule.
TRAI reveals identity of ten
lakh petitioners demanding net
neutrality
New Delhi : The Telecom
Regulatory Authority of
India, TRAI’s website
was reportedly hacked
yesterday after it displayed
details, including e-mail IDs
and names of around a
million people who wrote to
it on the issue of net
neutrality. A Hacker group
claimed responsibility for
bringing down the website,
saying TRAI could not be
trusted with anyone’s data.
However, denying any
hacking of the website,
TRAI officials said the site
was down due to some
technical glitches. The
regulator was severely
criticised throughout the
day all over social media for
disclosing the e-mail IDs.
Netizens panned the
regulator for revealing the email IDs which exposed
over a million people to
potential spamming and
unsolicited marketing emails.
NGRI scientists to study Nepal
earthquake
New Delhi : Additionalincharge of National
Geophysical Research
Institute (NGRI) Hyderabad,
Mr. Mohan Rao has said
that their scientists will
study last week’s powerful
earthquake in Nepal with an
aim to identify quake prone
areas. He said NGRI teams
are going to the Nepal
border to study the
characteristics of this quake
and its aftershocks using
seismic data and field
mapping in the coming
days.
The aim is to assess
the seismic hazard. He said
the
information
and
knowledge
obtained
through the analysis would
be helpful in understanding
the earthquake dynamics
and identify the earthquakeprone areas. The information
would also be useful in taking
decisions on locating
sensitive installations like
nuclear power plants.
He however stressed
that there was no way
earthquakes
can
be
predicted and the need was
to take adequate measures
to mitigate loss of life and
property during such
catastrophe. He also
highlighted the need for
quake-resistant construction
technologies. NGRI is
presently operating a
network of seismograph
stations along the Himalayan
belt.

New Delhi : Parliament
has passed a bill to
address the problem of
insolvency in the payment
and settlement system by
increasing transparency

stability.
The
payments and settlements
systems amendment bill
2014 is also aimed at
bringing India’s banking
payment system in
sync with international
practices. The bill was
passed by the Rajya
Sabha yesterday by voice
vote, with members cutting
across
party
lines
extending their support to
the bill. It was earlier passed
by Lok Sabha.
Moving

amended bill, Finance
Minister Arun Jaitley said it
was needed to address the
issue of insolvency. It seeks
to protect funds collected
from the customers by the
payment system providers
and to extend the Act to
cover trade repository and
legal entity identifier issuer.
A Legal Entity Identifier is an
unique ID associated with a
single corporate entity.

Govt giving highest priority to

Rajnath Singh today said
the government is giving
highest priority to womens’
safety and planning to set
up Intelligence Units for
Crime Against Women

country.
Replying to the debate on
demands for grants under
his ministry in the Lok
Sabha, Mr Singh said the
government is taking a
series of measures to
prevent crime against
women including regulating
the sale of acid in the
country.
The Home minister
said, the number of deaths
due to maoists’ attacks has
come down in recent times.
Expressing concern, the
Home minister said,
maoism is not only a
challenge
for
the
government but also for the
entire nation. He informed

that
communication facilities are
being strengthened in the
maoist infested areas. Mr

is making all efforts to win

Centre cancels licenses of nearly 9,000 NGOs
New Delhi : Government
has cancelled the licences
of around 9,000 NGOs for
failing to file annual returns
for the years 2009-10,
2010-11 and 2011-12. In
an order, the Ministry of
Home Affairs said, the
registration of the NGOs
that had neither filed their
annual returns for three
years nor given any
explanation for the delay,
stood cancelled with
immediate effect. The
Ministry has also directed
the district magistrate
concerned to manage the
assets of these NGOs in
any manner considered
necessary and in public
interest. The Ministry had
issued notices to 10,343
NGOs in October last year,
stating that they should file
their annual returns within a
month, specifying amount
of foreign funds received,
sources of such funds, the
purpose for which these
were received and the
manner in which such
foreign contribution was
utilized. However, only 229
NGOs reverted to the Home
Ministry and their replies are
being examined on case to
case basis. The Foreign
Contribution Regulation Act
requires every registered
NGO to submit its returns
annually, irrespective of
whether it received foreign
funding in that year.

Govt says 6 more satellites are
planned to be launched
New Delhi : Government
today informed that six
more satellites are planned
to be launched during 201516. These are two
Communication satellites
GSAT-6 and GSAT-15,
three Navigation satellites
IRNSS-1E, IRNSS-1F and
IRNSS-1G and one Space
science
satellite
ASTROSAT.
In a written reply in
the Rajya Sabha, Minister of
State in the Prime Minister’s
Office, Dr Jitendra Singh
also
informed
that

developmental works for the
people residing in the
vicinity of the borders.
The
daylong
seminar is being organized
by the BSF as part of the
series of events slated to
glorious celebrations of its
Golden Jubilee year. The
seminar is scheduled in two
sessions, the morning
session will focus on border
management with Pakistan
and in the second session
the issues on Bangladesh
border will be dealt.
Polar Satellite Launch
Vehicle (PSLV).
He said, as on April
this year, Indian Space
Research Organisation
(ISRO) has launched 74
satellites. Out of these, 7
satellites failed to reach the
orbit due to launch failure
and 3 satellites failed in
orbit. The Minister also
informed that, in addition,
ISRO has successfully
launched 40 foreign
satellites from 19 countries
and 4 micro and nano
satellites built by students of
Indian Universities using
PSLV.

said that civil servants must

convocation ceremony of
Indian Institute of Public
Administration in New Delhi
today, Mr Jaitley said, civil
servants need not to be
populist and strike a right
balance between good
governance and humility.
He said, different
service officers need to
attune themselves with
changing
economic
environment and learn from
successful experiences of
others. The Finance
Minister said, mid career
structured training is
necessary for updating the
different level officers and
staff with new changing
situation. He said, it is
necessary for every
service officers to learn
new techniques and
management practices.
RS passes Regional
Rural Banks Amendment
Bill
New Delhi : The Rajya
Sabha yesterday passed
the Regional Rural Banks (
Amendment) Bill, 2014. The
bill seeks to raise the
authorised
capital
of
Regional Rural Banks from
five crore to 2,000 crore
rupees and enable them to
mop up funds from the
capital market. Replying to
a debate on the bill in the
House, Minister of State for
Finance Jayant Sinha said,
the Government is making
efforts to strengthen these
financial inclusion to every
village in the country.

Minister said that there are
enough safeguard in the
bill. He said under the
present system, the Centre
has a 50 percent share, the
sponsor Bank 35 per cent

banks and they will help the

Bank will be allowed to go
