Configuring an Android device to connect to
Office 365 student email.
Screenshots and menu options provided from Google Nexus, Android version 5.0.2 Lollipop. Please note that
these may vary dependent on Android version on your device.
Device Security – Screen Lock
Important Note: connection to your Office 365 email requires that you meet basic
security standards on your Android device. If you do not have a screen lock
enabled, the configuration of O365 will require you to do so before connection is
enabled.
Information Services recommend you enable this manually before starting your email
configuration. We advise you use a minimum 4-digit PIN code. This can be enabled
within the Android Settings – Security - Screen Lock section.
Connecting Office 365 via Mail App
You can add your email account either by opening the Gmail App and selecting
Settings – Add Account or via Settings – Accounts – Add Account.
(These screenshots below are taken from the Gmail app method. Note, with older versions of Android you may
need to use the Mail app instead of the Gmail app.)
From the list of available account types, select Exchange

Enter your Office 365 email address.

(If you do not know it, refer to http://www.ulster.ac.uk/isd/help/faqs/finding-your-email-password)
After the Retrieving Account Information popup, you will be presented with
Incoming Server Settings.
IMPORTANT: you must manually change the server to outlook.office365.com or
else the account will not connect.
Upon hitting Next, you will see a Validating server settings popup and then the

The following screen gives you the ability to decide what you want to sync from
Office 365 to your device and how often.
Note: if you wish to see the entire contents of your Office 365 mailbox, make sure
you set Sync emails from to All, otherwise the default as shown is Last week.
You will then see the following screen:

This refers to the screen lock. Select Activate.
You will then see the following screen:
The account name will normally show your email address. You do not need to
change this.
This example above shows you can change it to anything you will readily identify the
account by (your mail app may already have a personally owned email account
connected).
Select Next and your email mailbox will then be connected.
If you have multiple mailboxes connected within the app, you can easily switch
between them.
