Job Description Short-Term Consultant, Finance & Accounting Position Title: Function: Short-Term Consultant, Finance & Accounting Finance & Accounting Reporting To: Project Manager Location: Duration: Karachi April – August 2015 Position Summary: The Short-Term Consultant, Finance & Accounting will report directly to the Project Manager at Teach For Pakistan and oversee all finance and accounting related to the DFID-funded Teach For Pakistan and Ilm Ideas project, “Encouraging Micro-Innovations in Education.” He/she will be responsible for managing all associated business regarding financial governance, reporting, and accounting functions of this project. He/she will participate in strategic, financial, and human resource planning as well as provide financial and accounting advice, direction, leadership, and reporting. This is a short-term position that will begin immediately and run through until August 31st, 2015. About “Encouraging Micro-innovations in Education Competition”: As part of a grant received through Ilm Ideas, Teach For Pakistan is: i) Leading a competition-style campaign to identify the most effective low-cost or no-cost teacher-led micro-innovations (innovative teaching practices) from public and private schools all over Pakistan, ii) Compiling them in a guidebook, and iii) Disseminating the guidebook to teachers and educationists for shared learning. This project has four phases: In Phase 1 of Development and Solicitation, TFP will collect impactful low-cost micro-innovations, through a nationally advertised competition, an online campaign and snowballing through key network partners. In Phase 2 of Testing, a Review Committee formed by education experts will outline a criteria and shortlist micro-innovations based on it. Rapid Assessments will also be conducted to verify the submission. In Phase 3 of Review and Synthesis, 30 micro-innovations will be selected for publishing, and top 10-15 for receiving cash or in-kind awards. This will require going through a criteria agreed on by the Review Committee. In Phase 4 of Documentation and Dissemination, the top micro-innovations will be featured in a guidebook for teachers. This user-friendly guidebook will be designed in-house and disseminated online as well as through three conferences in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. About Teach For Pakistan: Teach For Pakistan is a leadership development Fellowship for outstanding graduates and young professionals who commit two years to social change, transforming academic outcomes and life paths of students in under-resourced schools. Upon completing their two-year commitment, Fellows graduate to become Alumni, skilled and aware leaders of educational equity. In 2011, Teach For Pakistan inducted its first cohort of 17 Fellows placing them in Karachi’s poorest classrooms. In 2014, Teach For Pakistan has 49 1 Alumni who have completed the Fellowship, and 65 Fellows in classrooms across Karachi and Lahore. Teach For Pakistan is an initiative of the Aman Foundation and a partner of the international Teach For All network. Responsibilities: Ensure the integrity of Teach For Pakistan’s financial data as it relates to the micro-innovations project. Supervise the general accounting, accounts payable, cash management, financial and regulatory reporting, grant and contract accounting and reporting, payroll operations and government registrations for the micro-innovations project Oversee and manage all accounts, ledgers, and financial reporting, including the preparation of monthly financial statements and financial projections, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and the standards of Teach For Pakistan, Ilm Ideas, and Aman Foundation are met Maintain systematic and up-to-date records of all financial and accounting data related to the project Assist the project team with other business as necessary Be responsible for procurement, safeguarding, and maintenance of project assets and equipment Coordinate with the project team to ensure consistency of reporting to Ilm Ideas Manage and coordinate any audit processes Work closely with project management to administer and maintain the project’s budget tracking system Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance Minimum of 3 years work experience in accounting, business, or finance Experience in grant management, financial reporting and financial projections Experience in the non-profit sector strongly preferred Experience working on internationally funded projects and donor coordination is preferred Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Urdu Strong work ethic; appreciation for deadlines and adherence to project plans Excellent skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Strong forecasting skills; experience in modeling Familiarity with the education sector in Pakistan How to Apply: Please send your (i) resume (ii) a 3 to 5 page writing sample and (iii) cover letter to [email protected] with a cc to [email protected] clearly stating “Application – Short-Term Consultant, Finance & Accounting” in the subject heading.
