Pakistan High Commission New Delhi mission Diary Vol. XI No. 27 April, 2015 Pakistan High Commission MISSIOn Diary - April 2015 Statement of Foreign Secretary to Media after FS-Level meeting between Pakistan and India Islamabad, March 3, 2015 P ursuant to the telephone call by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to Prime Minister Mr. Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on 13th February 2015, the Foreign Secretary of India, Mr. S. Jaishankar visited Islamabad for FS level talks on March 3, 2015. Statement of Foreign Secretary of Pakistan to media after the meeting is given as under: “1. I held detailed discussions with Mr. Jaishankar today in a cordial and constructive atmosphere. 2.Our side was guided by the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan which envisages a peaceful and stable South Asia. Both sides recognized that the two countries need to work together to address mutual concerns and make efforts to promote peace and development. 3.My discussion with the Indian Foreign Secretary covered 2 bilateral and regional issues of mutual concern and common interest, including the Jammu & Kashmir dispute. I told my Indian counterpart that the leadership and people of Pakistan were deeply attached to the cause of Jammu & Kashmir and we need to make a concerted effort to resolve this dispute and indeed other disputes like Siachen, Sir Creek and water issues that could also be addressed through dialogue. 4.I underlined that we needed to work together in areas of convergences and address each other’s concerns in areas of divergences. The importance of maintaining dialogue was also stressed. 5.The issue of the situation at the Line of Control and Working Boundary was also raised. I underscored Pakistan’s firm commitment to the 2003 ceasefire, and the need to make optimal use of existing mechanisms to maintain ceasefire. 6.I underlined that the global phenomenon of terrorism poses a continuing threat to peace and security. I reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to eradicate the menace. I underlined that Pakistan was desirous of cooperation from its neighbours, in particular. Indian side raised its concerns. We also raised the issue of Samjhota Express terrorist attack and Indian involvement in FATA and Balochistan. 7.On bilateral trade and economic relations, I affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing mutually beneficial trade and economic relations. 8. I also underlined the importance of greater people to people contacts and friendly exchanges in building a relationship of trust and friendship between the two countries. In this regard, I suggested that the two sides should encourage increased people to people exchanges; promote cooperation in various fields including religious tourism; and discourage hostile propaganda against each other. 9.I also emphasized the need to promote media and sports contacts. 10. I conveyed to the Indian Foreign Secretary that Pakistan attached high importance to SAARC, which is an important vehicle for Pakistan High Commission MiSSIOn Diary - April 2015 promoting regional cooperation. Both of us agreed on the need to work together to develop the potential of regional cooperation. 11. Discussing the next SAARC Summit, I mentioned to Foreign Secretary Jaishankar that Pakistan is preparing to host the 19th SAARC Summit and was looking forward to welcoming the SAARC Leaders. 12. Overall, the visit provided an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and to understand each other’s concerns and interests. It was agreed to work together to find common ground and narrow differences. 13. The Foreign Secretary of India called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz. 14. Later, the Foreign Secretary of India also paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister.” Pakistan Releases 173 Indian Prisoners and 57 Boats Islamabad, February 16, 2015 A s a goodwill gesture, the Government of Pakistan released 173 Indian prisoners (including 172 fishermen) and 57 Indian fishing boats. Earlier, Pakistan had also released 40 Indian prisoners on 29 November 2014. Indian fishermen and boats are often apprehended by Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) authorities when they violate Pakistan territorial waters. Usually the boats are not in seaworthy condition and are not returned. However, following instructions from the Prime Minister to return these boats, special efforts were undertaken by the PMSA to ensure that the boats are returned to their owners. Pakistan has always held that the issue of prisoners between the two countries is a humanitarian one and should be taken in that spirit. It is our hope that the Government of India would release all Pakistani prisoners who have completed their sentences. Pakistan evacuates 11 Indians from Yemen Pakistan Navy Ship Aslat evacuated 11 Indians along with 148 Pakistani citizens from strife-torn Yemen’s southeastern city of Mokallah. They were taken from Karachi to New Delhi in a special plane provided by Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif. Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Abdul Basit congratulated all Pakistan nationals in India on this auspicious occasion. He stated that the creation of Pakistan within seven years of the passage of the 1940 Pakistan Resolution reflected the wisdom and tenacity of our founding fathers. Under the impeccable and sagacious leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the Muslims of the sub-continent realized their dream. It was now incumbent upon us to make Pakistan a truly welfare state as envisioned by the Quaid-e-Azam. Referring to Pakistan-India relations, the High Commissioner underlined the importance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of “Peace for development and development for peace.” He said High Commissioner Abdul Basit hoisting Pakistan flag. Pakistan was keen to settle all the issues with India, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, through dialogue. He added that peace was in the mutual interest of Pakistan and India and that it was now high time to normalize relations and usher in a new era of peace and stability, enabling the two countries to address the challenges facing our region and exploiting myriad of opportunities unleashed by globalization. The reception was attended by politicians, scholars, journalists, businessmen, prominent Kashmiri leaders and people from various walks of life.
