We will provide a full induction into the role and the service, with ongoing training, although previous experience of coordinating volunteers is desirable. This post sits within Bristol Support Services alongside the Bristol Youth Links Homeless Prevention & Bristol Floating Support teams. 22 This post will contribute to reducing homelessness in Bristol for young people and helping them and their families to stabilise and improve home life, so it becomes sustainable in the longer term. An average day will include: Working with service users, and families/housing providers to maintain current housing - where it is a safe to do so. Leading service negotiations and devising solutions with all parties to prevent homelessness, ensuring the needs and risks of service users and third parties are assessed effectively. Working in partnership with relevant agencies where appropriate, to provide additional support. Coordinating and supporting a bank of volunteers to help deliver the service. About you You have empathy with and understanding of the needs of homeless people and the barriers they face. You like being around and working with people. We're looking for someone who has a good understanding of the issues facing people who are at risk of homelessness and of the solutions available to them to avoid losing their current home. Experience in mediation or restorative approaches would be an advantage, however, the ability to remain impartial, empathetic and solution-focused is just as essential to the role. You will have the skills and competencies to coordinate volunteers, offering them training, supervision and continual support in relation to the cases they are handling. You need to be comfortable working in a variety of housing settings, e.g. supported housing or family homes, and you will be able to assess and manage risk at both service and service user level - to ensure mediation sessions remain safe and confidential. You will regularly be working with people from diverse backgrounds and with vulnerable people, so you should understand the importance of working within an equal opportunities framework and within safeguarding and confidentiality guidelines.
