The Ladies Club Championship was won by a newcomer Alison Muirhead with a cumulative total of 151. Dear Member, I trust you have made use of the facilities at the new clubhouse and the Fire and Earth courses, which have been in fantastic condition over the winter months. Since the clubhouse opened last November, we have implemented weekly food theme nights and events to help create a more club atmosphere. We have very recently revamped the existing all day menu and added new offerings. As part of our Official Partner status with the European Tour we will be giving away tickets to the upcoming BMW PGA Championship and Irish Open, check out the Members Benefits section in this newsletter for further details. It is great to see how the Mens and Ladies teams have enjoyed so much success this year. We wish the Mens Scratch League team, the very best of luck in the upcoming semi-final returnleg match against Dubai Creek on 9th May. SCRATCH TEAM The golf team will be introducing Go Pros for the marshals which will help the senior members review their performance and educate them going forward. In the coming summer months an astro-turf strip will be added to the lower practice tee to help assist with increased practice play and protect the grass for the members and guests who are playing on the day. The team are also concluding the process to order new golf carts and GPS systems. Finally we are working closely with our developmentteamandlookforwardtobringing you news on the next phase of the clubhouse works which are to be added prior to the DP World Tour Championship in November. Once more I personally would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of the club and please feel free to pass on any comments or suggestions you may wish to share with us to: [email protected] The Jumeirah Golf Estates ScratchTeam continues their current fine form reaching the semi-final of the 2015 UAE Scratch League, captained by Martin Fernandez. Our best wishes in the 2nd leg against Dubai Creek on May 9th having secured a 2-2 draw away in the 1st leg. Happy golfing! Members Newsletter May 2015 EARTH GOLF COURSE FIRE GOLF COURSE Due to the recent warm period the Fire Course has improved with leaf cover and colour. The patchy areas of the greens have now recovered to previous levels and performing extremely well. The tees, fairways and approaches will improve as we go into spring and summer and temperatures continue to rise. We have a 5 day maintenance period planned for the first full week of May where we will aerate and sand all areas to encourage growth and prepare the golf course for the summer. Over the winter period all levels of the Earth Course have been performing extremely well. The greens, which were the best they have ever been for the DP World Tour Championship, have continued to thrive under the slightly warmer than normal winter temperatures holding their colour and growing through pitchmarks. We have adopted a bi-weekly spiking programme to keep the canopy open and began weekly grooming to maintain ball speed. The overseeded rough has seen the stand of ryegrass mature and tiller out giving a denser look and preferred playability as the ball sits up rather than against the ryegrass, a problem post DPWTC. Winter projects have included the renovation of bunkers with additional sand and reshaping the native grass sides to their intended shape. This along with some tree pruning and a native grass trimming will continue until late spring. Landscape The majority of our time in the landscape has been on pruning trees and clearing away some of the noxious reeds that are in the lakes. This will continue into the spring and early summer. This is, of course, a target that we continually endeavour to improve upon, but there are numerous components required to achieve this, most notably members acknowledgement of this and marshalling. Our team of Golf Operations Supervisors are working with our operations team to further educate and assist them while marshalling our courses with a couple of new initiatives being worked on. We are pleased to announce that one key initiative which will soon be implemented is the introduction of GoPro Cameras to our Jumeirah Golf Estates marshals that will enable us to advance in several key areas including customer service and security. The recording of interactions with our members and guests on key areas such as pace of play and how a staff member transfers information to golfing groups will assist with the improvement and enhancement of the golfing experience. It is to be noted that the main responsibilities of our marshalling team are to: Monitor the course for good pace of play Ensure players keep up with games ahead Patrol the course during play and deal with on course issues that may arise Check that all golfers have checked in with the retail store Report any on course incidents back to the Golf Operations Supervisor The club would like to remind all, to please respect the course marshals and any requests or decisions that they make. The marshalling team are there to ensure the enjoyment of all playing the courses and their intentions are not to penalise nor deter individuals experience when making a decision that is in the best interest of the flow of the course.
