Town of LaGrange May 2015 Newsletter Minutes of the Regular Meeting, Town of LaGrange, Wyoming, meeting at the Town Hall on April 9th 2015 at 7:00pm. Present were Mayor Mark Marshall, Councilman Joel Tremain, Mike Huseby, Cameron McCoy and John Beightol. Town Clerk Cathy Stoddard and Public Works Director Tracy Pragnell were also present. Attorney Ed Buchannan was absent. Visitors attending were: Bruce Hale, Robert Goodall, Tonya Denton and Michelle Willey from AFLAC insurance, Jennifer Pragnell from Goshen County Economic Development, Lauren Nordeen and Tonya Nepper from Wyoming Child and Family Services. Mayor Marshall called the meeting to order at 7:10pm. Joel moved to approve the minutes as read. John seconded, motion carried. AFLAC representative, Michelle Willey, came to discuss group supplemental insurance opportunities to the council. Jennifer Pragnell came to update the town council on the Goshen County Tourism Board. Lauren Nordeen and Tonya Nepper came to update the council on the services provided this year from Wyoming Child and Family Services. Mayor Marshall asked for old business. Cathy gave an update on the sewer project. The tentative start date will be the later part of April or first part of May. The contractors will begin on A Street and will inform business owners and residents if/when services will be shut down. The LHS building was discussed the sewer issues have been resolved at this time and the building is open to the public. Mayor Marshall gave an update on the Community Facilities Planning Committee meeting. Mayor Marshall tabled the third reading of Ordinance #59 An Ordinance relating to sewer bonds. Mayor Marshall asked for new business. Mike moved to approve Resolution #3-15 Election Officials. John seconded motion carried. Joel moved to appoint Tracy Pragnell animal control officer in the absence of Terri Schinost. Mike seconded, motion carried. Fiscal year 2015-2016 budget was discussed, Joel moved to approve the first reading of Budget Ordinance#139 Fiscal Year 2015-2016. Cameron seconded, motion carried. Joel moved to hold a budget workshop on May 29th at 7am for further budget discussion. Cameron seconded, motion carried. Clerk and Public Works questions were discussed. No motions were made. Cathy stated the State Land & Investment board approved the transfer of funds requested by the town. Cameron moved to pay the bills, John seconded, motion carried. Joel moved to adjourn the meeting at 9:42pm. Firemen’s Pancake Supper Thank you for supporting your local Volunteer Fire Department. The LaGrange Volunteer Firemen's Annual Pancake Supper was a success with donations of $4,600. Town of LaGrange Election Tuesday May 12th 2015 A Big THANKS to all the donors! Terms of office are as follows: Council- (2) four year terms Wyoming Property Tax Relief Polls open at 9:00AM and close at 7:00PM Forms to apply for a property tax refund will be available again this year. You can pick them up at the Goshen County Court House, Treasurer’s Office. Information is available at LaGrange Town Hall. The forms must be turned into the county by June 1st, 2015. LaGrange Town Hall – 200 C Street Must be a registered voter of the Town of LaGrange LaGrange Spring & Summer Community Ed Classes You can register and pay for any of the classes by calling Town Hall at 307-834-2466 or Susie in Torrington at 307-532-8213. Please register at least one week in advance. This really helps in the organizing of the class. Open Computer Lab There is a $30.00 per semester fee (May 1st.-July. 31st ) for the use of the EWC Computer Center at the LaGrange Heritage Square. The computer Center is currently open 7am-2pm, and upon request. Use up-to-date technology & software as well as high-speed internet access in the EWC Community Education Computer Center . The center is available for use by any community member. Anyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. 10,000 Steps to a Healthier You!! Location - LaGrange Town Hall Instructor - Cathy Stoddard Time - 6:00pm Date - Friday May 1st, then on your own! Price - $10 EWC is offering a summer fitness challenge to all community members age 18 and older. Walk your way to fun, prizes and good health. Challenge your family and friends to join in and make it a social time. You must bring your pedometer, if you need one, call Cathy at 834-2466 before May 1st. Youth Baseball Session I Location- LaGrange Community Baseball Field Instructor– Natalie Clayton Time– 4:30-5:30pm Dates- May 5 to 28, Tuesdays and Thursdays Price- $10 Ages- K - 8th grade All kids grades K-8 in LaGrange are invited to come and learn the general rules of baseball and develop skills as a group. Players need to provide their own baseball glove and water. Session II (begins May 28th) will be games and improvement of skills. COMING THIS SUMMER Youth Baseball, Session II-Beginning May 28, continuing thru the month of June. Cost $20, includes t-shirt, cap, awards and ceremony meal. Registration deadline May 15th. Keyboarding-Tuesdays June 9th-August 11th in the LHS Computer Lab. Cost $20. 5th grade and up. Horse Basics-Beginning Tuesday June 9th. Your own horse is NOT required. Cost $35, first meeting at LHS, Suite 217. Beginning Origami-Tuesdays, July 7, 14, 21 at LHS, Suite 217. Cost $15 for kit. Registration deadline June 30th. ***************************************************************************************************************** LaGrange Mini Fair is scheduled for Saturday, June 27th. Or check the website at www.lagrangewyo.com Mini Fair Meeting There will be a committee meeting on May 6th at 7:00pm at Carolyn Ward‘s home, 834-2347. We are getting down to the wire, so anyone who is interested in helping, please plan on attending. Thanks to FSB for the spring clean-up of our Town!! The last day of school for students at FSB is May 7th, followed by graduation on May 8th in Scottsbluff at Midwest Theatre, 7:00pm. Congratulations to all the graduates! Remember to check out the Town of LaGrange website for current and upcoming events!! Jay’s Greenhouse Will open Friday, May 1st at 4:00pm. Their hours will be: Mon-Fri 4:00 to 6:00pm Saturday 9:00am to 6:00pm Sunday 1:00 to 6:00pm CEMETERY BOARD ELECTIONS District elections for LaGrange District Cemetery Board will be held at LaGrange Town Hall the same time as our elections for Town Council seats. There will be a separate check in for these elections. These fund-raisers make it possible for our American Legion Auxiliary to promote Americanism and to carry out projects in support of our Veterans, the Military, and their families. Hats off to the Longhorn Café for providing a high-traffic location for this fun event. Poppy Month: Watch for Poppies in May. When you see a Poppy donation tub, take a free Poppy to wear as a reminder of our Veterans’ sacrifice for our Freedoms. Be sure to drop your generous donation into the tub. Also, watch for our student’s Poppy Posters on display. Memorial Day Service and Meal: In Observance of Memorial Day on May 25, 2015, LaGrange’s John A McGill American Legion Post 70 will conduct a Memorial Day Service at the LaGrange Cemetery, starting at 11:00 AM. Following the service will be a Carry-In lunch at the War Memorial Building. Please bring main dish, salads, or desserts; the Auxiliary will furnish the drinks and place settings.. This gathering offers an opportunity to meet and visit with neighbors from near and far. Poppy Posters will be on display. Everyone is invited to the Service and the Lunch. Contact Donnie Kessler if you wish to help decorate the cemetery, or help in other ways. American Legion Auxiliary Raffle This year’s raffle is for an American flag. Buy your tickets from any Auxiliary member, winner to be drawn on Memorial Day. This project serves to benefit the Auxiliary’s emergency fund for members’ families who are in need. If you are eligible for membership in the American Legion or Auxiliary through your own service or as a descendant, step up and join these vital, patriotic organizations. First place winners at District will be submitted for competition at the Department (State) Level. Cash awards will accompany each placing. Interested students took part in the EWC Community Education workshop in LaGrange to learn poster art techniques along with the history and significance of the poppy. The students then composed posters displaying the poppy amid patriotic scenes as reminders of the sacrifice of America’s veterans. Poppy Month starts May 15. Community members are encouraged to donate money in the Poppy tubs placed in various businesses, and in turn proudly wear a poppy to show support of our Veterans. The students’ posters will be on display around the community as reminders of Poppy Month. Take a moment to honor our artists and veterans.
