Dear Church Family,
The body of Christ once called the upcoming days “Easter Holidays”. Not long
ago “Easter” was removed to pacify our lost and dying world. These days are
now called “Spring Holidays.” The church has accepted the world’s view in so many ways. Easter Sunday
was once the highest attended day of the year in our churches. Today, however, Easter is fast becoming
simply another holiday rather than a most Holy Day.
Thank God for the faithful ones who still celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Easter
Sunday and the Easter season is a time to proclaim Jesus is alive! He arose from the Grave! Christ has
conquered Satan, sin, and the grave! Bless His holy name!
Mother’s Day was once the second highest attended Sunday of the year. Christian families would honor
their mothers by being in the house of God on this special day. Now we honor our mothers by having
them cook all day and by encouraging our mothers to miss worship. Oh the special memories of my
family when we were in church together worshipping our Lord. Oh precious memories!
Dear Laurel Church Family,
Happy April! We are now officially a quarter of the way into
the year and its spring. I love the spring. It reminds me of
rebirth and new life. Changes made on the inside become
evident on the outside. The flowers and trees bloom and
leaf; the weather turns warm through the closer rays of the
Sun. Spring reminds me of God’s plan for new birth (John 3:121): Easter.
This year Easter falls in April. Easter is a wonderful reminder
of God’s love for us (John 3:16). Easter is the Gospel (1 Cor.
15:1-4). Easter is God’s plan of salvation – the cross, the death, the burial, and the resurrection (Rom. 5:8).
While we love the baby in the manger celebrated at Christmas, without the cross, the tomb, and the rolled
away stone Christianity is futile (1 Cor. 15:12-19); but praise be to God that we serve a risen savior. As the
old hymn states:
“He’s in the world today. I know that He is living whatever men may say; I see His hand of mercy, I
hear His voice of cheer, and just the time I need Him He’s always near. He lives, He lives, Christ
Jesus lives today! He walks with me He talks with me along life’s narrow way. He lives, He lives,
salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives: He lives within my heart!”
Let me encourage everyone to remember what Christ did for us on Calvary. He went to the cross and
died for us. May we now die to ourselves and live for Him by bringing glory and honor to His name.
Remember, we are the church and He is the head of the church. If you love Jesus (the Head), you will
love the church (His body). Come, let us worship!
Praise be to God for His indescribably wonderful gift (1 Cor. 9:15) which blooms in us and transforms us
into a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17) through the warming of our hearts to His Son.
As we move along through the month of April, may each of us be praying for our Ministry Fair that will
be held on Sunday, May 17th at 5:00 PM. Pray and ask God what He would have you do and where would
He have you serve within the church. Christ died for you. What will you do for Him through His church?
Pray that we will have the greatest Ministry Fair ever!
As for our children and youth, we would like to thank you all for your continued support and prayer. God is
still working here and we at Laurel are blessed. We continue to see growth here. Please continue to pray
that God will continue to bless us. Pray for the diligence of our workers and that God would continue to
provide more laborers in his fields as the fields are ripe to harvest (Luke 10:2). We are starting to wind
down the school year so please also pray for the faithfulness of our children and parents as well.
Other churches will be attending our ministry Fair as well. We have the finest Ministry Fair Team
anywhere who plan, promote, and prepare for this special occasion. I ask that every member of Laurel to
be present and ready to volunteer to serve our Master.
Personally I would like to thank you for your prayers and support for me and my family. Ashley, Quinn, and
I are blessed to have you as our church family and covet all of your prayers. Thank you!
With these special days in mind, I invite every member of Laurel and everyone who receives this
newsletter to make plans now to attend our Homecoming on Sunday, April 19th. Rev. Al Phillips, who has
been called to serve as our new Director of Missions for the Greenville Baptist Association will be our
guest preacher. Begin now inviting your whole family, your friends and your neighbors to attend with
you. Bring your best cooking-your veggies, pies, cakes, bread, etc., etc., etc.! Laurel Baptist Church has
much to be thankful for! Let us praise Him, worship Him, adore Him and celebrate this Homecoming! I
hope to see you present. Make calls, send letters. Let’s bring honor to our King of kings – our Lord Jesus
Christ!

watch the newsletter for more “Wish List” items.
Our FAITH Ministry
Everyone has an opportunity to learn how to share his/or her faith. We are
ready to help disciple you. The greatest thing on earth that we can do is be a
witness for Christ by leading others to Him. Jesus came to seek and to save
that which was lost. This is what god wants us to do. This is our calling. This
is our purpose. Jesus said, “Go ye…” Are you willing? Please join us on
Monday evenings at 6:30 PM for Church Wide Visitation.
