Wing Sports & Social Club to The Dolphin, Stoke Hammond 6.5 miles
Start postcode LU7 0NW. Finish postcode MK17 9BB
Please note: You are using public footpaths. Look for sign post. At most
stiles/gates there are arrows pointing you in the direction of the path. Beware
of cattle and roads.
Abbreviations: X = Cross, Thru = through, FP = Footpath, BW = Bridleway, ST =
Stile,
KG = Kissing Gate, FB = Footbridge.
Starting at the Wing Sports & Social Club car park:
X the road at pedestrian Xing and turn right. X the roundabout and turn right
heading towards Leighton Buzzard.
100 meters from the roundabout enter the housing estate on the left thru the
tree line. The FP starts (right 2 o’clock) thur KG in hedgerow into the field.
X the field (left 11 o’clock) to stile in the corner. (Beware of cattle). X the field
towards the farm. ST is in the hedgerow on the left. Turn right towards ST’s
passing behind the farm.
Follow FP arrow Xing field toward pylon in distance (Left 11 o’clock), to ST in
hedgerow. Continue in same direction to the pylon. KG is to the left.
Head straight ahead towards the sound of traffic (LB Bypass) & turbine in the
far distance. Find gate, turn left and continue along side of the LB Bypass. Thur
2nd gate following path until you reach the bridge over the road. X Bypass,
follow FP over a narrow FB to KG.
Once in woodland, turn immediately left following narrow PF until you reach
the road. (Beware of traffic). X road to pavement for safety, turn left
continuing for 200 meters. Xing Lomond Dr until you reach a bus stop sign, X
back across road. The FP continues in the tree line through a KG, follow FP to
ST and downhill to 2nd ST. X the FB ahead heading towards sound of Bypass
traffic.
Follow the FP along the side of the Bypass. Ducking fallen tree, until you reach
the underpass. Turn left going under the Bypass. The FP bears right then on
into fields. DO NOT CROSS OVER THE BROOK. With the brook to your left
follow the field edge and X FB. Continue to follow fields edge keeping the
brook to your left hand side. Follow fields edge and brook until you see the
second FP sign. X FB, head towards the Gatehouse. The gate is in the right
hand corner. Join the main road (Beware of traffic).
Turn left Xing the road. The FP continues on the opposite side of the road.
Climb ST. Staying at the edge of the field head towards the big Oak tree in the
hedgerow. Cross 2 ST into next field following the yellow arrows. X the field
(right 1 0’clock) towards the traffic cone in the brow of the hill. Heading
downhill in the same direction continue to the ST in the righthand corner of
the field. Cross 2 ST and follow the field edge towards hedgerow. Cross FB
and ST and head uphill (11 o’clock) to the KG. Follow the drive between
paddocks. Thur KG, follow gravel drive away from large house between
buildings onto road opposite church.
X road & turn right following pavement through village. X Stewkley Road onto
the Village Green. X The green keeping houses on your left hand side. Continue
until you reach left hand folk, Dean Farm Lane. Turn left on lane and continue
straight ahead for almost 1 mile, passing through a gate until you reach a
tarmac drive.
Turn right on the tarmac drive. Passing under the bypass & then under the
railway. Follow road until you reach a main road.
Turn left & continue of the grass verge. X Mount Pleasant road, continue until
you reach the Dolphin Pub on the left. The Checkpoint is in the car park.
