Lake Elkhorn Eagles April 24, 2015 Lake Elkhorn Families~ Greetings~ It was great to meet so many rising 6th grade parents and students at our Parent Orientation on Thursday. We look forward to seeing all the new students on May 19th for their visitation day. Once again, our students received accolades for their hard work. Our Family and Consumer Science Teacher, Ms. Dean, led our Junior Achievement students to win 1st place in the Middle School Personal Finance Challenge! See their picture enclosed in this newsletter. Next week, we begin the Linal round of PARCC testing, starting with the 6th graders this Monday. Please remember to get a good night’s sleep and eat a nutritious breakfast in order to do your best on the assessments. It will be located in the cafeteria. We ask that all students report to the gymnasium by 5:15 pm. The dress code for this event is business casual, not formal. Students wearing inappropriate clothing will not be allowed to attend. If a young lady is wearing a dress with thin straps or no straps, we ask that they wear a sweater to cover up. After the closing ceremony, there will be light refreshments located in the gymnasium. DEBATE TEAM The Lake Elkhorn Middle School Debate team had another successful season. The debate resolution was, "The state of Maryland should ban the use of plastic bags and the point of sale." The debate team went against two other schools on this topic, once for the resolution and once against it. The students did a very good job in representing the school. The team that was for the resolution won their debate and the team that was against the resolution lost. So it was a split for our team from the school. The students on the debate team will do a demonstration of their skills at the Enrichment Fair on May 7th. Fitness Fact and Challenge: If obesity among kids continues to increase, many believe this current generation of young people will become the first in American history to live shorter lives than their parents. ENRICHMENT FAIR On May 7th the Enrichment Fair will be happening at Lake Elkhorn Middle School. This year the Enrichment Fair will be very different. We will be using the stage in the cafeteria in order to show the different types of enriching activities that have been occurring at our school this year. We will have performances from The Actors Guild, Jazz Band, Debate, Chorus, MESA, Orchestra, Research Projects, and other groups will be presenting and or Help fight this health crisis by performing for everyone to see. We will also have projects from the GT playing a tag game with your Enrichment Seminars on display as well as projects and outstanding work from family outside for 30 minutes all classes. this weekend. We are hopeful that we can get many people here to see the wonderful things that have been happening all year here at Lake Elkhorn. The Enrichment Fair will begin with the Actors Guild performance at 6pm, followed by the other groups performing or presenting throughout the evening. We hope you will join us here for our special night. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Bond ( [email protected] ).
