The Titan of Business & Philanthropy Award honors individuals or companies who are recognized leaders in their industries and equally known for making an extraordinary difference in their communities. “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is pleased to recognize BB&T Bank for their partnership in the fight to end blood cancers,” said Beth Gorman, Executive Director of the National Capital Area Chapter. “Their corporate commitment to volunteerism and support of LLS has had a tremendous impact on the lives of our patients and their families. It’s partners like BB&T that get us one step closer to a world without blood cancers.” BB&T has supported the Leukemia Ball over the past several years through Group President, Dan Waetjen, who served as co-chair in 2014 and Sr. co-chair in 2015. In this leadership role, Waetjen steers a talented volunteer committee as they work to advance the mission of LLS by selling sponsorships and tables. This past fall, BB&T also made LLS the beneficiary of their annual 5K and 1K fun run, increasing LLS’s exposure to members of the local business community. In addition to its support of LLS, BB&T supports many local communities, as well as national and international aid efforts. Washington Convention Center. The event is expected to raise $3.1 million for LLS’s mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
