July 20 – July 31, 2015 Summer Institute in LGBT Population Health Call For Applications Program Objective The Center for Population Research in LGBT Health is pleased to announce this call for applications from graduate students and early career scholars. The Summer Institute provides participants with training in interdisciplinary theory and methods for conducting population research on sexual and gender minority health. Participants will gain knowledge and skills in the study of LGBT population health to incorporate in their research careers. Over the two-week program, trainees will deepen their knowledge and skills related to life course approaches for studying sexual and gender minority population health. A cohort of up to 10 graduate students and early career scholars will be selected for the 2015 Institute that will be held over two weeks at Fenway Health and Northeastern University. The intensive, 9AM - 5PM full-day program includes: 1. Daily seminars in LGBT Health and Social Life to provide an overview of key topics, methods, and perspectives - time provided for participant discussions will be a major component. This year’s Institute will focus on life course approaches. 2. Instruction in survival analysis, with hands -on application will be provided. The course will conclude with presentation and discussion of individual student analyses and strategies to advance life course research on sexual and gender minority health. Program Costs There is no tuition charge for participation in the program. Costs for housing in Northeastern University dormitories will be covered for up to 10 out-of-town trainees. Trainees will be responsible for their own transportation costs and meals. Limited scholarship support is available to offset these costs. To be eligible, applicants must be interested in incorporating LGBT population health into their research careers and must be enrolled in a Masters or doctoral program or have received a research doctoral degree within the last 5 years. Applicants must also submit a transcript that indicates successful completion of at least one statistics course on regression.
