Sport Development Advisor – Parafed Taranaki Job Description TITLE OF POSITION Sport Development Advisor - Parafed Taranaki POSITION TYPE This position is 40 hours per week and is dependent on funding. This position operates in accordance to the Sport Taranaki Flexible Working Hours policy and may require some out of hours work. OFFICE LOCATION New Plymouth, however occasional travel to other parts of Taranaki required ______________________________________________________________________________ REPORTS TO Sport Development Manager ABOUT SPORT TARANAKI Sport Taranaki is a community focused organisation whose role is to identify and respond to the sport and physical activity needs of people of all ages in the Taranaki region through the delivery of a variety of programmes. Vision:“An active healthy Taranaki” Mission: “To lead and support sport and active recreation in Taranaki” Values: Professionalism – ‘Always bring your A game’ Passion – ‘Records are made to be broken’ Teamwork – ‘There is no i in team’ Leadership – ‘Lead by example’ HEALTH & SAFETY Sport Taranaki Staff members are responsible for: ABOUT THE ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS Becoming familiar with and abiding by all applicable policies and guidelines; Following established procedures to ensure safe performance of a given task; Reporting all occupational injury, illness, near miss incidents, fire, regardless of its severity, to a manager; Reporting hazards which may result in an injury, illness, fire to a manager; Advising colleagues and relevant staff members when unsafe acts and/or conditions occur; Correcting unsafe conditions when appropriate, possible and safe to do so; Behaving in a manner which does not endanger the health and safety of themselves, other employees or participants. To facilitate the development of ParaFed Taranaki, ensuring that the organisation caters for and supports people with physical disabilities to be proactive in sport and physical recreation. Increase the number of activities/recreation opportunities being offered in the Taranaki region for ParaFed Taranaki members and then project manage their implementation with the support of ParaFed Taranaki. Project manage key ParaFed Taranaki events. Increase the quality base of coaches and volunteers so that these roles are well resourced Develop and establish strong relationships in the community and the disabled community. Establish sporting opportunities for athletes with local sports clubs. Ability to investigate and develop opportunities for ParaFed Taranaki members, increasing and marketing membership. Liaise and network with primary and high schools to identify disabled youth, co-ordinate and deliver the School Inclusivity Project. Create a yearly schedule of events to develop new sporting initiatives throughout the year. This will identify required funding / budgets etc Increase recreational support to enhance the social status for people with physical disability Co-ordinate monthly activities for the ParaFed Youth Club. Mentor athletes to develop their personal/professional skills. Report to ParaFed Taranaki monthly on activities. Has strong networks amongst the sporting community and is able to build strong partners. Able to self manage and deliver under pressure. Able to build strong relationships with members and their family/whanau. Strategic planner: Ability to plan and implement strategies to provide successful sports events in the Taranaki region on behalf of ParaFed Taranaki. Ability to identify and pursue potential funding opportunities. Sport expertise: Ability to build capacity in coaches and volunteers able to develop and implement sports events aligned with the vision of ParaFed Taranaki. Communication skills: Has the ability to communicate and deliver to a variety audiences. Able to work within diverse cultural settings. Able to use a variety of communication methods to reach members including social media. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Tertiary Education in the sports field or many years’ experience Holds a current full NZ motor vehicle driver’s licence and comfortable driving with a trailer (or willing to learn). Driven to a high standard of outcome and excellent time management skills Relative skills and knowledge of the sports and recreation industry Experience in the Disabled sector would be a bonus Good computer skills (MS Word, MS excel, Email, and Database applications).
