DE JONG BOYS KICKING AHEAD Jeff Speakman Kenpo 5.0 is a modern day, practical Martial Art with a philosophy of self-‐respect packaged into a strong self-‐defense system. It builds self-‐ discipline, confidence and self-‐respect in its participants. Started by Jeff Speakman in America he oversees clubs in 21 countries. Jeff has appeared in more than 10 movies and is the only Martial Artist rated higher than Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. He is visiting New Zealand in August and we are fortunate to have him visit and join training with the Cambridge Club. We are privileged in Cambridge to have 4th Dan Black Belt Sensei Mark Robinson in our dojo, who has built up a strong club of over 50 members. The Children are also taught Etiquette and Values inherent to being a Kenpo 5.0 student. All students wear 3 Chinese characters (Kanji) on their uniform (Gi) that reminds them of the values a Kenpo student holds in high regard in life; those being Wisdom, Strength and Kindness. Danny started Kenpo at the beginning of last year and has progressed from White Belt to currently grading from advanced Orange to his Purple Belt. He won 1st in Forms and Sets and also Self Defence at the Fabian Niwa Memorial in Taranaki last year and 3rd in Sparring, punching well above his weight, at the Oceania Championships at Karapiro in April. Luke began in June last year and after taking a term off to play cricket is grading for Advanced Yellow Belt. Luke's strength is in sparring and put on a fantastic display at Karapiro also. Caleb began after watching his brothers in Taranaki last year and is showing great promise in Techniques and Sparring. He has recently been graded and achieved 1st Degree Orange Belt. All three will be competing at the Fabian Niwa Memorial in Taranaki again in August where competition will be strong with a contingent coming from the USA to compete also. New Zealand is a force in the world of Kenpo 5.0 with all 28 members who went to the last World Championships in Las Vegas gaining a podium position. We wish the boys' the best of luck for their competition in Taranaki.
