Absent for 1st practice, and 2nd practice is canceled due to weather Games - Positions Positions Rotate players into different positions Throughout game Throughout season Goalkeeper Rotation: U9-U10: no more than one quarter per game in goal; must also play 2 quarters on field U11-U12: no more than one half per game; should also play on field Games – Modified Rules Game Format: U9-U10: 7v7, four 10-minute quarters U11: 8v8, two 25-minute halves U12: 8v8, two 30-minute halves Throw-ins: U9: two chances U10-U12: one chance Games – Modified Rules Slide tackling U7-U12: no slide tackling permitted Blowout Rule & Managing Lopsided Scores U7-U10: down by 4 +1 player U11-U19: none If winning by large amount: rearrange positions, play lesser developed players more, add conditions (must connect 5 passes before scoring). Games – Modified Rules Offside Law Only blatant offenses at U9 Full enforcement U10-U12 Games – Play Balance Play Balance When one team is short a full lineup, the team with more players should: Loan players for that game (may rotate loaned players) Play down for even numbers (e.g. 6v6 instead of 7v7) Games – Post Game “Good Game” handshake line Thank the referee(s) – players and coaches Clean bench areas, clear area for next game No score reporting (standings not published) Games – Sideline Behavior Sideline Behavior Positive role models for all (players and parents) You are responsible for your team and fan conduct Set the tone for others to follow No confrontations with others (parents, coaches, refs, etc.) Keep cool and walk away Remember: It’s for the Kids! Games – 2-Page Rule Doc These rules and reminders are available in a 2-page Doc Found at Coaches Info Center Print and bring to your game each week Referees Assigned by outside organization Severe shortage of referees (both quantity and quality) – local and nationwide Many will be young (14-17 years old) with 1 or fewer seasons of experience Some will be good, others not-somuch Referees They interpret the Laws of the Game Interpretations vary from ref to ref and from game to game They are human – mistakes are made Referee = The Boss The Boss is in Charge!
