SPRING 2015
NEWS+NOTES!
Green Island Service Trek!
Supper + Sustenance!
Every Sunday evening,
5:30-7:00, students and
invited guests gather at the
Luther House table for a
hearty meal. After supper, we
spend 45 minutes in
conversation about topics of
interest – biblical themes,
current events, or subjects
we’ve asked a teacher to help
us know more about. !
Years ago, students and staff of
Luther House were introduced to
a habitat restoration project at the
confluence of the McKenzie and
Willamette Rivers called Green
Island. A dream of the McKenzie
River Trust, the project aims to
restore a 1,000-acre farm to
habitat that is suitable to birds,
fishes, and wildlife of all kinds.
May 16 we return for our fifth daylong project to remove invasive
species, plant native trees and
shrubs, and see first-hand the
improvements that have resulted
from our work. This year we’re
joined by the OSU Minorities in
Agriculture, Nature Resources and
Related Sciences students. Trip
details available by May 1.
This term includes a
movie about Dietrich
Bonhoeffer, a presentation on
environmental ethics, a
student medical mission, an
exploration of “God as
Mother” in time
for Mother’s Day,
and short YouTube
films about the
world’s religions.!
It’s a privilege
to learn together,
get better acquainted, expand
our minds, and deepen our
faith. Come to the feast for
body and soul. - Pr. Jim
!
CAMPUS OFFICE HOURS – LET’S TALK!
What do you do when you need someone just to
listen to you? Where do you go when things are
piling up and you don’t want advice so
much as a listening ear to hear your
frustrations? How do you find a safe
person to confide in, someone who will
keep confidences and won’t report back
to parents or teachers or friends? We have a deal for
!
you! Spring Term, Pr. Jim is committed to holding
office hours on campus every week from 2:00-3:30,
various days and locations on campus.
Watch GRACEnotes for details about
where to find him. Even if he looks like he’s
working on something or reading a book,
don’t hesitate to interrupt. No appointments
necessary. No subjects off limits.

HOLY WEEK AND MORE !
THE TERM AT A GLANCE!
Here’s a brief overview of the
menu of possibilities for Spring
Term. Come join us as time and
schedules permit.!
Holocaust Memorial Week, 4/12-16
Holy Week Observances, 4/2-5
Holy Week is the high point in
the Christian calendar. It captures
the immensity of God’s love for
us. It offers us a way to walk with
Jesus through suffering, betrayal,
and death into everlasting hope.!
Remembering helps us avoid
repeating past atrocities in the
future. This week is aimed at
remembering and declaring,
“never again.” In solidarity, let’s go
to one event together.!
Pints of Grace, 4/15, 5/13, 6/3
A periodic study break is a
very good thing. To this end we’ve
scheduled three monthly social
hours (8-9:00 p.m.) at pubs near
campus. You buy your beverage;
