Thank you for your ongoing commitment to students and teachers in
the Lake Washington School District. The Foundation is proud to partner
with our community and district to raise funds, gather resources and act
as a catalyst to involve the community in the education of over 26,000
students in four learning communities. Our mission over the last decade
has never wavered – to raise funds to support academic excellence and
success for all students in the district.
We know that students thrive when provided a beyond basic public
education, businesses succeed with a skilled workforce and communities
grow and prosper with talented individuals. Your investment and
involvement makes this possible and directly impacts student learning
every day in our schools!
Since 2005, the Foundation has awarded the district nearly $2 million to
support district-wide initiatives and provide classroom tools to help all
students succeed. The remarkable journey to reach our tenth year would
not have been possible without the visionary guidance and continuing
support of our Founding Board of Trustees, Founder’s Circle Members
and current Foundation leadership.
We are celebrating 10 years of investing in kids, and have exciting plans
to more than double our investment to benefit more students in our
growing district! On April 29, 2015, we will hold our annual Legacy for
Learning luncheon with a goal of raising $600,000 to help fund districtwide academic initiatives, classroom grants, robotics, online math
programs, mentoring and tutoring, new teacher support, anti-bullying
programs, STEM classes and small student scholarships for secondary
school expenses. Please join us!

and helps to enrich our students’ basic education allows us to dream
big, increase our funding and ensure that ALL students are future ready.

With gratitude,
Reaching for Success grants allow teachers to develop innovative
projects that engage students and provide extra learning
opportunities. Recent grants have funded: online math practice,
robotics, summer reading, kindergarten readiness programs,
laboratory materials and musical instruments.

1,064 students were impacted at 13
schools on 1,741 occasions through
the Foundation’s Access Fund
administered by InvestED.
The Access Fund enables at-risk middle and high school students
to get the most out of school by providing small scholarships
to pay for school-related expenses. The Access Fund empowers
principals and staff to identify and immediately respond to
student needs. Scholarships help pay for items such as classroom
materials, Advanced Placement tests, ASB cards, and cap & gown
rentals.
8,000 students at 36 schools
benefitted when 80 second-year
K-12 teachers participated in the New
Teacher Support program.
The New Teacher Support Program gives new teachers tools
and mentoring for a strong start to their career in our district.
“Consulting teachers” work one-on one with new teachers,
modeling, co-teaching, observing and mentoring -- resulting in
improved classroom instruction of our students. The program
helps second-year teachers build connections between

Waste Management and the Foundation
are committed to preparing students for
college, the global workplace and personal success. In September 2012, Waste
Management donated $225,000 to support STEM Signature classes at the Tesla
STEM HS and other district high schools
beginning in 2013-14. STEM classes align
with students’ interests and use problem-based learning to address complex
societal issues through a fusion of social science, digital literacy and critical
thinking. In 2013-14 Waste Management
continued to support students through
sponsorship of the Foundations’ annual
luncheon, provided in-kind services to
create a Zero Waste Event and will participate at the same level again for 2014-15.
Waste Management offered a Garbology Action Project internship at Tesla
STEM HS this year providing students the
opportunity to develop a waste prevention and recycling plan for a neighboring
elementary school. Partnerships enrich
curriculum and strengthen our schools,
which attracts new business and industry
-- helping to ensure our students have the
opportunity to graduate and pursue their
passions as global citizens.

Core Academic Summer School (CASS) is a credit retrieval
and intervention program that targets incoming 10th grade

“Our vision of a “future ready” graduate is a student with a clear pathway that aligns with their personal
goals and passions, and a plan for
their post-secondary education,
whether that is a four-year university, a military or certificate program,
or a two- year community or technical college. As a district, we take
our mission and vision very seriously. Our average graduation rate for
the past two years is
93%, compared to a
77% statewide average,
and 81% of our graduates go on to pursue
post-secondary education, compared to 60%
statewide. As a district,
we’ve set performance
targets for 2018, for 88% post-secondary enrollment and 100% graduation.
Ultimately, while our mission and
vision focuses on graduating future-ready students, the pathway to
future-readiness starts the minute
we welcome kindergarteners into
our district. We want to help every
student, starting in kindergarten,
and continuing through elementary, middle, and high school, to
find their pathway to success. This
means we need to have strong core
academic programs, solid intervention programs for students at risk,
and dynamic enrichment programs
that inspire students to find and
fuel their passions.

Lake Washington Schools Foundation presented
an Education Champions Award to Roger and
Terri Blier at the 2014 Legacy for Learning
Luncheon. Roger and Terri have been supporters
of the Foundation since its inception in 2005. Terri
Blier, a founding trustee, served as Foundation
president and vice-president and until recently,
served on the board for the first ten years of the
Foundation’s existence. Passport Unlimited, Roger
Blier’s company, has been a luncheon sponsor
since 2007 and he serves on both the Foundation
and the school district advisory boards. The
Foundation is profoundly grateful to the Bliers
for their ongoing dedication to students in the
Lake Washington Schools District through their
support of the Foundation.
