PARENTS Inspired Parenting Stress free holidays SCHOOL HOLIDAYS can be a time of stress for parents. Juggling childcare, keeping the children entertained, managing sibling rivalry, costly activities and having very little time to yourself. These are all issues that can lead parents to feel quite stressed about upcoming holidays. We may have thoughts such as ‘How am I going to cope’, ‘How am I going to keep the children entertained’ or ‘Holidays are such hard work’. These are all stressful thoughts which create stressful feelings which then affect the experiences you have. To be able to cope better with the holidays start to look at what kind of thoughts you are having and try and change them to more positive ones. The more you think these positive thoughts, the more relaxed you will feel. Here are Inspired Parenting’s top tips to creating a calm environment in the holidays: www.raring2go.co.uk 1. Ask the children what they want to do and work DURXQGWKHLUQHHGV2IWHQZKHQWKHLUQHHGVDUH met then they are more likely to work with you. 2..HHSDFWLYLWLHVVLPSOHDVFKLOGUHQOLNHDGXOWVFDQ get stressed by doing too much. 3. Stay positive. The more you can focus on the positives in a situation the less stressed you will feel. 4. Have fun. Most children just want to have fun so the more fun you can make, the less stressful most situations will become. 5. Sibling rivalry can be resolved by being involved in what they are doing or by keeping them apart! Try not to take sides as this often makes the situation more stressful. 6.%UHDWKHDQGKDYHDWLPHRXW:KHQ\RXÀQG yourself feeling worked up take a few deep breaths and have a timeout, even if it is just to have a cup of tea. That few minutes away will give you new perspective on the situation. %\:ROYHUKDPSWRQPXP5DPLQGHU'KDOLZDO,QVSLUHG3DUHQWLQJ 21 Raring2go!
