Indies, Straits Settlements 5c brown (Singapore), Siam, Indo-Chine (Laos), Hong Kong, China (2, Shanghai & Peiping), India (Simla), Persia, Iraq, Egypt & finally atdestination G.B.(London). Hint of ageing but fine. Interesting to note that the only backstamp on the cover is a Singapore G.P.O. with a different time code to the ‘K’ type cancelling the stamp which suggests that Singapore was the only G.P.O. which didn’t just chop the stamps but made him pay local 5c rate and then delivered his mail to him! Manuscript “Guaranteed flown Francis Chichester, pilot No.64” but despite cover number quoted this is a rarely seen item. Pilot signed by the man who was famously knighted by the Queen on landfall after his much later Round the World Solo yacht voyage. A remarkable pioneer air mail item. With photocopy of translation notice. 20 330 1954 (17 March) leaflet No. 3089 approx 6x10 inches on pink paper with Chinese text, headed Subscriptions of all localities must be sent to the Central Committee with a cartoon showing 9 CT’s, representing different States, all throwing money in to a big sack. Text asks what the Committee buys for them and where does the money go? Good condition with photocopy of translation notice. 25 331 1954 leaflet No. 3274/HPWS/29 6¼ x 10 inches on pale pink paper, headed Eating Rice and Doing Nothing which tackles the harm Communists are doing and benefitsof living in ‘White Areas’ declared free of C.T.’s, reverse is a series of cartoons showing said benefits against those Black Areas where C.T.’s still operate, minor perimeter toning but good. With photocopy of translation notice. 12 332 Johore 1954: Three 5.75 x 9 inches leaflets, all code No.3338/HPWS/38, informs C.T.’s of amnesty one side with ‘New Safe Conduct Pass’ in Chinese, English, Malay & Tamil. Three variants for different District War Executive Committees in Johore:1. “B.P.” at lower-left for Batu Pahat printed on ochre paper 2. “K” at lower-left for Kluang on pale yellow paper. 3 “SGT.SA1,2,3” at upper-right for Segamat on orange paper. A fine trio with photocopy of translation notice. 25 Malaya Study Group 28th March 2015 333 1955 (Sept) Three related leaflets No.(3802/00/A) & two (3802/99/B) with one side of each with Declaration of Amnesty signed Gen. Bourne. All approx. 6x10 inches, ‘A’ on red paper (bit faded one side) in Tamil has message from Tunku Abdul Rahman; ‘B’ on blue paper in Chinese and the last in yellow (minor toning) in Jawi, both have Federation flag & Amnesty Safe Conduct Pass in six languages on other side. Despite minor faults not bad condition & an interesting trio as leaflets in languages other than Chinese scarce. With photocopy of translation notices of text. 25 334 1955 (Sept) foolscap orange leaflet No. 3821/J/88, one side with photograph of the leading citizens of Kluang listening to the towns appeal to the Communists Terrorists to take advantage of the amnesty offer, to come out of the jungle & to become decent citizens of Malaya. Other side headed Federation flag with Amnesty Safe Conduct Pass signed Gen. Bourne. Ex. Gen. Grieve who noted dropped over the Kluang, Rengam, Ayer Hitam & Yong Peng areas of Johore by Auster aircraft or helicopters of 1911 A.O.P. Flight. Good condition. 25 335 Perak c1955 leaflet 5080/PK/393 10¾ x 7½ inches on light pink paper with Chinese text one side, presumed to be a message from those in the large photo on other side of 6 recently surrendered C.T.’s on parole looking well groomed, healthy & free enough to be smoking & enjoying themselves outside a cafe. Good condition. 18 336 Johore 1954(30 July) leaflet announcing “Grand Military Display and Fete” to be given by the 1st Bn. The East Yorkshire Regt. At Kluang, printed in 4 languages on pink paper 7½ x 10 inches, good condition. This was printed and distributed as a leaflet & is presumed to be part of General Templer’s ‘Operation Service’ – that the services and police were servants of the people and not their oppressors. 15 337 1951(Sept.) G.P.O. London Overseas Airmails folded leaflet, 6pp in blue, details Surcharge Air Mail Services outside Europe with rates for letters per ½ oz, postcards, 2nd class, Parcels per ½ lb to Malaya & also Singapore.
