It was a week of intensity, intimacy, betrayal, injustice, sacrifice, despair, victory and hope. It was a week like none other. But is the drama of that week still relevant today? What do the events of that ancient week have to do with your life in Nanaimo in 2015? I’d say pretty much everything because your story is inseparably interwoven with that story. How so? Because you were there. Let me explain. You were there in the sense that everything Jesus endured that week, he endured with you in mind. Therefore, you were in reality with him. He thought about you when he spoke words of love and hope to his disciples in the upper room the night he was betrayed. He thought about you as he hung on that lonely cross with the weight of the world upon his shoulders. He thought about you when he rose victoriously from the grave. And he hasn’t stopped thinking about you. Let me encourage you to relive the events of that terrible and wonderful week by spending time this week reading about them in one of the gospels. You can also relive the story alongside others at the inter-church Good Friday service and at our Easter Sunday celebration service next weekend. Through all of this, allow the Holy Spirit to remind you that God’s story is your story. Invite him anew to write your story—because he’s the best storywriter! Time for Reflection In many churches you will be hard pressed to find an image of Jesus hanging on the cross. We tend to stress that we serve a Risen or Resurrected Saviour rather than a Crucified Lord. But there is no resurrection without death, and there is no forgiveness and reconciliation for us with God without the shedding of Jesus’ blood. During this holy week, you are invited to follow, reflect, and pray about Jesus’ painful journey to death by praying through the stations set up in the Sanctuary of Christ Community Church, 2221 Bowen Rd.
