All classes are subject to change or cancellation Admission to UW-Marinette Students planning to attend summer courses ONLY at UW-Marinette must submit a special student application. Students planning on continuing their enrollment at UW-Marinette for fall should complete the regular undergraduate admission application and supply all appropriate documents. Admission applications may be obtained from the Student Services office or you may apply online at www. apply.wisconsin.edu. Transferability of Courses Courses taken at UW-Marinette or online will transfer to colleges and universities nationwide. For information regarding how courses transfer to UW baccalaureate campuses, visit www.uwsa.edu/tis/ and go to “Credit Transfer Wizards.” Financial Aid Six credit hours of summer courses are considered half-time for financial aid purposes. To be considered for financial aid through UW-Marinette, a student must be admitted as a regular (not as a special) student. The student must also have completed and submitted a 2014-15 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form using 2013 taxes. Students are encouraged to apply online at www.fafsa.gov. If you attend another campus and are enrolling at UW-Marinette just for the summer, contact your campus Financial Aid Office to discuss the possibility of a Consortium Agreement for summer financial aid. Summer Session On-Campus Tuition & Fees Tuition and fees are payable by cash or check on campus or by credit card online in PRISM. Once registered, if you decide not to attend classes, you must officially withdraw prior to the first day of classes online or at the Office of Student Affairs to limit your financial obligation. For payments not received by the due date listed in the calendar section, your registration will be canceled and you will be automatically charged a $50 withdrawal fee per session. If you choose to be reinstated, the $50 fee + full tuition must be paid. No grace period and no exceptions. To avoid the $50 withdrawal fee, you must drop a summer course prior to the course tuition deadline. AP GEO 130 Human Impact on the Environment 4 credits #1014 8:00-1:00 pm TTh F-108 West A natural science course describing the alteration of the physical environment with the resulting effects on air, water, soils, vegetation, animal life and humans. Field trip required. Geo 130 meets DPI requirements for environmental education at some UW baccalaureate institutions. NS; $35 course fee. WOM 210 Women’s Health & Sexuality in Society 3 credits #1015 1:00-4:30 pm MTWTh M-117 Hendrick This course will offer basic facts about the structure and functioning of the female body; issues in women’s health and sexuality will be approached interdisciplinarily and will include physical, mental, emotional, and social health and wellness topics and will be framed by discussions of race, class, and other cultural identities. Cultural, social, economic and political contexts will be explored. SS/ES 3-Week Session 2: July 13 - JULY 31 MUS 278 History of Rock and Roll 3 credits #1021 8:30 am-12:00 pm MTWTh T-117 Giebler A study of Rock and Roll with emphasis on the roots, origins and influential figures in the history of this cultural phenomenon. Includes recorded listening experiences. FA/ES HES 217 Social Aspects of Sport 3 credits #1020 5:00-8:30 pm MW F-108 Kowalski A course focusing on sport institutions as social organizations and how they function within a culture or society. Emphasis is placed on group structure and membership, as well as group pressure, socialization, stratification, and deviance as they apply to the sport’s setting. Significant emphasis is placed on the role of minorities in sports. Selected topics include sport and: educational institutions, socialization, children, deviance, violence and aggression, gender and equity, race and ethnicity, social class, social mobility and stratification, economy, politics, religion, and the media. Blended - pary online/part in class. 2 credits #1132 1:00-3:40 pm MTh L-105 Zaidan Trigonometric functions, their basic properties and graphs, identities, inverse trigonometric functions, solving trigonometric equations, solutions of triangles. Prereq: (a) a grade of C or better in MAT 110 (b) concurrent registration in MAT 110 or (c) placement based on placement test score. MS. Prerequisites: MAT 113 has a prerequisite of (a) a grade of C or better in MAT 110 (b) concurrent registration in MAT 110 or (c) placement based on placement test score. MS $30 course fee. 6-Week Session 2: JUNE 15 - July 25 ENG 102 Critical Writing, Reading & Research 3 credits #1016 1:00-4:30 pm TTh M-108 Learst A composition course focusing on academic writing, the writing process, and critical reading. Emphasis will be on essays that incorporate readings. Prereq: A grade of C or better in a basic writing course (ENG 097, ENG 098, or LEA 106 when taken as a three-credit course) or exemption through a sufficiently high placement assessment. Core. MAT 090 Basic Mathematics 3 credits #1017 5:00-8:45 pm TTh M-108 Meisner Designed for students with minimum algebra background or who have been away from mathematics for several years. Subject areas to be covered include arithmetic of whole numbers, fraction and decimals, ratios and percents, and basic algebraic concepts. Prepares the student for Elementary Algebra. $65 course fee. Non-degree credit course. MAT 091 Elementary Algebra 3 credits #1018 5:00-8:45 pm TTh M-108 Meisner Intended for students with little or no previous algebra. Topics include the real number system and operations with real numbers and algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, factoring, and introduction to quadratic equations. Note: This class is using the Hawkes program. $85 course fee. Non-degree credit course. MAT 110 College Algebra 3 credits #1019 5:00-8:30 pm TTh M-117 Kalafut Definition of function and sequence; linear and nonlinear functions and graphs including logarithmic and exponential functions; systems of linear equations and Gauss-Jordan method; theory of polynomial equations; conic sections and optional topics such as mathematical induction, matrix solution of linear systems and Cramer’s rule.
