2015 Summer Internship Application Thurgood Marshall College Application Deadline Friday, April 24th, 2015 2015 Summer Intern Job Description The TMC Summer Intern, under the direct supervision of the TMC Coordinator of Student Activities, has the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of TMC Student Affairs programs/events/projects during the summer quarter. This includes developing, planning, implementing, and the evaluation of programs/events/ projects for which the interns are responsible (examples are listed below). The Summer Intern also shares responsibility for administrative tasks which keep the office running smoothly to ensure a professional environment. The Summer Intern position begins on May 18, 2015 and ends on October 5, 2015. In general and with flexibility, Summer Interns can expect to work: One Sunday morning shift @ 6 a.m. during Commencement on Sunday, June 14 (negotiable) 12 hours per week in July 17 hours per week in August 20 hours per week in September 39 hours during Welcome Week (September 16 – September 25) 10 hours after Welcome Week (September 28 – October 5) Summer Dean’s Intern(s) are expected to assist in the following areas: Decide on Welcome Week theme and UnOlympics dance choreography/storyline based on theme Planning, implementation and evaluation of UCSD Summer Bridge Thurgood Marshall College Night in mid-August Coordination of the TMC Welcome Week calendar of events for new (first-years and transfers) and returning students, integrating campus-wide and traditional TMC events with new activities designed to enhance student UCSD experience Responsible for collaboration with TMC Orientation Leaders and Resident Advisors for TMC participation in the UCSD UnOlympics competition Serve as a resource to the TMC summer student population Work with various departments/offices on behalf of the College Contact vendors, entertainers, presenters and volunteers by phone and/or written correspondence for various events Publicize and promote upcoming events (i.e. banners, fliers, etc.) Maintain and develop the bulletin boards of events Review and edit program documents as necessary Provide administrative support to staff as needed Qualifications: Willingness to work flexible hours and occasional weekends Commitment to the Thurgood Marshall College philosophy and UCSD Principles of Community Effective communication and interpersonal skills among staff, faculty and other students Ability to work effectively with a team and to work efficiently independently Well developed organization skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize Event/program planning experience preferred Training Provided: When hired you will be asked to complete an online tutorial (http://setp.ucsd.edu/) Initial job orientation in July and then on-the-job training for each project will be provided Cash Handling Tutorial 2015 Summer Internship Application Thurgood Marshall College Application Deadline Friday, April 24th, 2015 Name: ____________________________________________________ PID #_________________________ E-Mail: [email protected] Phone: _________________________________ College: ______________________ Class Level: ____________________ Transfer Student? ___________ Are you eligible for work-study?
