Thank you to the many parent volunteers who gave their time and effort toward this
year’s Spring Fair and Silent Auction. Many thanks to Ingrid Kleckner, Sabrina Strickler,
Ellen Teverovsky, Lorraine Tegeris, Jessica Eustace, Ben Gross, Carrie Weitzman and the
entire Parent Council for making the event a resounding success, and to our Mater
Amoris families and local businesses for your many generous donations. Special thanks
go to Erin Cermak for transforming the music room into the wonderful Boots and Roots
setting for the Silent Auction. We appreciate all the families who supported this event,
whether by attending the fair, working at the fair, donating to the auction, or purchasing
items from the auction. All profits will contribute to the support of school programs.
I would also like to extend a special thank you to the Weitzman family for delivering the
supplies for pizza/hot dog Fridays throughout the year. We were all set each week with
hot dogs,
buns, chips, drinks and condiments thanks to their willingness to pick up the
Pilgrims
supplies from Boarman’s Market and bring them to the school.
As summer approaches, I want to thank everyone – parents, children and staff – who has
helped to make this another successful and rewarding school year. I also wish to express
my sincere appreciation to the 2014-15 Parent Council members for their many
contributions to the school. I look forward to working with next year’s officers and

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who is participating in the
graduation on Tuesday, June 2nd. The lovely contributions of food coming in for the
reception and the volunteers who are helping with set up, serving and clean up will help
to ensure that this very special celebration is a memorable event. Your time, effort and
support make this important evening possible.

END OF THE YEAR UPDATES FROM THE CLASSES
From Ms. Shea: This has been an exciting year for me to be back in the classroom and to watch your children
grow and develop at their own pace. The younger children are still busy learning the sounds of the alphabet
and the afternoon children have learned the joy that comes with discovering they can read. Have a great
summer and I look forward to seeing the children in the fall.
From Mrs. A-O: It’s just NOT true! It can’t be the end yet!! We’re not ready! Hey, we were going to start
another timeline! We’ll miss each other! But I wanted to start this! All these phrases can be heard in our class
– so it is with joy that we face the extra 3 days! And remember how we loved those surprise snow days!! So
we won on both deals! May summer go quickly so we meet again. Thank you, parents, for bringing us each
day. Have a wonderful summer (with books in hand)! Love, Mrs. A-O and our class.
From Mrs. Poje: Our class is excited to be wrapping up all the work for the year. We have been studying the
history of Ancient Greece and China, while also finishing up timelines, math books, and numerous reports. We
hope everyone has a wonderful summer and look forward to being together again in the fall!
From Mrs. Perez: With Echo Hill and Cal Cup behind us, the students in the Upper Elementary are focusing on
putting the final touches on their civilization research projects and timelines, cleaning out unfinished folders
and generally organizing their work as they move through the last two weeks of school. Lessons continue and

OCELOTS RETURN FROM CAL CUP
Over the Memorial Day weekend 23 students from Mater Amoris attended the California Cup field hockey
tournament, continuing a 16-year Ocelot tradition. The 23 players, including Mia Tegeris, Alejandro Villa Bass
and Jackson Gross from the lower juniors, formed the Ocelot Gold U10 and the Ocelot Blue U12 teams. Coach
Regina Asher coached an amazing total of 11 games over the three days. Velika Zaitseva and Bronson Shepherd
were team managers and Marissa Kleckner moved up to the Wolves U14 team with many of our former Ocelot
girls as players. The Wolves are coached by Alex Grassi who is on the US Men’s team and is a former Mater
Amoris graduate and Ocelot gold medalist. Bronson Shepherd also played for the Moorpark Bulldogs U14 boys’
team as a pick-up player. Our U12 team earned a 2nd place in their pool and 4th place overall. Our U10 placed
5th overall. The tournament was a great opportunity for the Ocelots to play against highly competitive
international teams and all of our players agree that their skills improved with every game. Each game
provided opportunities to learn team work, responsibility and self-discipline.
The Hike 4 Hockey event was again a highlight of the trip as we hiked over 5 miles on Wednesday and Thursday
in Zion National Park. The Thursday hike to the Emerald Pools was guided by 2 naturalists from the Zion Human
History Museum who focused on the geological and human history of this amazing national park.
A special thank you to our wonderful chaperones, Christina Thomas and John Auville, and the supportive
attending parents – Carrie and Todd Weitzman, Lisa and Craig Ver Steeg, Nancy and Mike Sinsky, Sabrina and
Mack Strickler, Becky Derro and Jonathan Wilt, Nicole Wolanski, Kim Morrison, Jamie Griffin, Kristin Gross,
Margot Bass and Stephanie Asher (Coach’s daughter) who all made the trip a great success.
Thank you also to the Parent Association for sponsoring the tour bus to Zion. Kim Morrison was instrumental in
arranging the Southwest group rate for the team which also helped keep costs down.
Over the past many years, donations to the Mater Amoris Hike 4 Hockey event have gone from a high of $8,000
in 2004 to $1,500 in 2013, $570 in 2014 and $45 this year. This fundraiser is critical to the ongoing success of
the Ocelot field hockey program and helps significantly in keeping overall costs down and covering any
unforeseen expenses during the trip. The pizza/hot dog Fridays and the spring plant sale continue to support
the program but have never covered all of the expenses of both the butterfly garden and team activities.
Again this spring we welcome and truly appreciate any donations to the Mater Amoris Athletic Fund
which will help secure the health of the athletic program going forward.
