McAuliffe Elementary Newsletter 2015
McAuliffe Elementary Newsletter 2015 Main Office: 651.480.7390 or 651.480.7391 Nurse‘s Office: 651.480.7395 The school year is quickly coming to a close. It hardly seems possible that May is here already. We’re busy planning end of the year activities as well as beginning preparations for the coming year. School Ends - The last day of th school is Thursday, June 4 . This will be a FULL day of school. We have so many happy memories of this past year. We want to thank you for your support in helping us provide the best education possible for your child. Have a wonderful summer! Looking Ahead to School Year 2015-16 Each family will receive a letter in August with important information for the beginning of school. The first day of school in the fall for students in grades 1-4 will be Tuesday, September 8th. On Tuesday, June 2nd, we’ll be telling students who their teacher will be for next year. The students will then have a half hour with their new teacher and peers in their new classroom. Our hope is that this will relieve some of the anxiousness on the part of the students moving into the next grade level. The Special Information Form deadline for student placement was Friday, April 17th. This criteria was used in part to create these class lists. Kindergarten students will receive a separate mailing in mid-August regarding their class placement along with the time and date of orientation. Suggested classroom supply lists for the fall will be available on our school websites and in local stores. EARLY DISMISSAL - Friday, May 15 Students will be dismissed @ 12:00pm NO SCHOOL - Monday, May 25 BUS TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION for 2015-16 Q. If my child attends daycare can they ride a bus? A. Students in grades K-4 will be transported from home or daycare within their school attendance area only. For example, if you live in the Kennedy attendance area and daycare is also in the Kennedy attendance area, bus transportation will be provided. All students need to walk to the closest bus stop. No students will be transported from within walking areas. Please keep in mind that the bus company is not able to accommodate special requests for busing (such as going two days to one place and two days to another. Or one week here and another week there). SUMMER READING ASSESSMENTS – August 26th and 27th In an effort to better meet the needs of our students elementary sites will be assessing students’ reading before the start of the 15’-16’ school year. As last year assessments will take place in August, so that our reading instruction can be better aligned to our students’ needs on the first day of school. The assessment will likely take about 30 minutes (if you have more than one child, we are attempting to make it possible to assess them all at the same time). Separate communication will be sent home about the process later this month. We know your summer time is valuable and wanted to get the dates out to families as soon as possible. Thank you, we very much appreciate your support. MOVING? We’d like to hear from you if you’re planning on moving over the summer months. This will help us to get your child’s records transferred to the correct school and we will be able to make more definite plans regarding class sizes. Thank you for your cooperation. LUNCH/BREAKFAST COST FOR MAY/JUNE Lunch - $57.60 Breakfast - $30.00 Lunch & Breakfast - $87.60 Please remember that your child will be having picnic and class trip days in May and June. Also, some students have lunches carried over throughout the months. This will change the amount needed to pay through the last day of school. If a student has overpaid, that amount will be carried over to next year. Please be aware that starting on May 30th students will not be allowed to charge at all. Please contact April Bechel (651.480.7126) at the District Office if you have questions regarding the status of your child's lunch account. END OF THE YEAR PICNICS Many classes will be having an end of the year picnic. Please be on the lookout for the permission slip to come home. Each child will also need a bag lunch and a beverage. Our food service will be glad to provide your child with a bag lunch if there is money in your student’s account. If you are interested in having our cooks make a bag lunch for your child, be sure to let us know at least two days before it is needed. BAND REGISTRATION th 5 Grade Band registration is in full swing! Registration materials are available at your school office. th 5 grade is the perfect age to start learning a band instrument. Students in the Hastings Band Program enjoy meeting new friends, being a part of the school community, and playing fun music together! Band teaches music performance and responsibility, teamwork, focus, self expression, and time management. This musical group of students will play together through high school in concert bands, pep bands, marching bands, jazz bands, and enjoy traveling together. As your child makes the transition into middle school, band is a great school community to be a part of! Please call Katy Linne at 651.480.7149 with any questions and pick up a band information packet at your school office.
