Photographic artist David Jefferis will be conducting a book signing on June 13 at the Meeteetse Museum from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. His new book, Kirwin: a Wyoming Ghost Town, features original images by the Cody photographer, as well as a concise history of the former mining town. The beautiful
color and black and white images bring the town to life and showcase the Wolf Mine Shaft House, the
Tumlum mine, and many other structures located in the high Absarokas. Jefferis’ photographs also capture the rugged, natural beauty of the area. The book sells for only $24 and is now available at the museum bookstore. Be sure to attend to get an autographed copy!

Meeteetse Youth Work Program
I would like to take a few minutes to tell you about an exciting opportunity to support the Meeteetse Youth Work
Program (MYWP). As you may know, the MYWP offers
employment opportunities for youth ages 14-19 within the
Meeteetse community.
The MYWP is a partnership between the state of Wyoming
Department of Workforce Services, the Town of
Meeteetse, the Meeteetse Schools, the Wyoming Community Foundation, and many Meeteetse employers. It is in
this spirit of partnership that we ask you to financially
support this program at whatever level you are able.
This year we are tasked with raising $3,200 to match a
contribution from the Wyoming Department of Workforce
Services. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated,
and every dollar goes back into the pockets of the youth
employed by the program.
For more information please contact Town Hall at 8682278. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
HEART MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY HIKE
In celebration of National Trails Day, America’s largest celebration of trails and enjoyment of the outdoors, The Nature
Conservancy and partners are hosting the annual Heart Mountain Community Hike on Saturday June 6, 2015.
Where:
Hikers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Heart Mountain Ranch headquarters, west of Powell, where coffee and donuts will
be provided. From the Powell Highway (14A), take Road 19 at the Heart Mountain Relocation Camp. Road 19 is
approximately halfway between Powell and Cody. Travel 5 miles to Road 22.
About the Hike:
This hike is for anyone who wants to enjoy the outdoors and learn something new about Heart Mountain or nature in
general.
You can hike for as long or short as you choose. Be prepared for a full day outdoors and a strenuous uphill-downhill hike
of approximately 8 miles round-trip if you choose to summit the mountain. If you plan to attend, please bring water, your
own lunch, sunscreen, clothing for inclement weather, and bear spray. Powell Valley Healthcare will provide extra water
and granola bars halfway up the trail.
Local experts will join for the hike. They will address some of the lesser-known facts about the mountain’s unique
geology, history, plant and animal life, as well as the intricacies of the management of this local landmark.
Please join the effort to reinforce the importance of trails in your community--this hike is sponsored by:
The Nature Conservancy
The Bureau of Land Management
The Greater Yellowstone Coalition
Call The Nature Conservancy’s Heart Mountain Ranch Office at 307-754-8446 or e-mail [email protected] with any questions.
