It was built in 1913 by the upcoming German concrete industry in the style of the pantheon in Rome to show what could be done with concrete. Since then it has been used as a trade fair hall. In recent years it has been a popular venue for functions and parties. The building was renovated extensively in 2005. The Volkspalast is now regarded as one of the best event locations in Germany.
