Students create a cumulus cloud of shaving cream in a jar of water. Colored drops are placed on top of the cloud. Actual bones, casts and digital models show how bones, cartilage, and muscle come together. Highlights include: Alligator skull, casts of Asian carnivore skulls and fossil reptiles. _____________________________________________ Science Hall 209 Technology For the Visually Impaired How Microbes Affect You Presented by Glen Pinkard (Potomac Valley Chapter of Mountain State Council of the Blind) Display Grade Levels: K - 12 This is a demonstration of the various technologies available to assist individuals with limited or no vision. _____________________________________________ Presented by Vicki Huffman (Potomac State College) Interactive Grade Levels: K - 12 This is a hands-on demonstration about effective hand washing and surface cleaning; presentations about the foods we have thanks to microbes, brushing your teeth, vaccinations and more. _____________________________________________ Page 9 Page 10 Science Hall 211 Science Hall 308 Hands-On Anatomy Presented by Sheri Chisholm (Potomac State College of WVU) Interactive Grade Levels: K - 8 Visit an interactive anatomy and physiology lab where participants can read about various organ systems and interact with dissected and preserved specimens and models. Also discussed with each organ system are various health related issues and how to prevent them. _____________________________________________ Science Hall 219 Introduction to Dinosaurs Presented by Henry Falkowski (Potomac State College) and Terry Falkowski (Potomac State College) Interactive Grade Levels: 6 - 8 Visit our presentation of dinosaurs along with hands-on activities with fossils and models of various types from the dinosaur periods. This includes both vertebrate and invertebrate fossils and models. _____________________________________________ Science Hall 318 Demonstration of Healthy Lungs and Simulated Smoker’s Lungs Presented by Gerald Wilcox (Potomac State College) Presentation (30 minutes) Starting Times 1:00 Grade Levels: 6 - 12 This is a hands-on activity that demonstrates healthy pig lungs and simulated smoker’s lungs. The simulated smoker’s lungs represent the lungs of a person who smoked a pack of cigarettes per day for about 20 years. _____________________________________________ Science Hall 220 Fossil Fun Presented by Hollie Lynch (National Park Service) Interactive Grade Levels: K - 5 Students examine tools used by an archaeologist and create an imitation fossil using clay to develop an understanding of what fossils can tell us about the past. _____________________________________________ Science Hall 318 Aquatics, Soils, Forestry, Wildlife, Oh, My! NASA Rocket and Balloon Programs at West Virginia University Presented by Dimitris Vassiliadis (West Virginia University) Presentation (20 minutes) Starting Time 1:00 Grade Levels: 6 - 12 Flight projects are popular with students of all ages. We present science experiments built by students of different age groups (from middle school to college). Nanotechnology is revolutionizing research & development in medicine, new materials, energy, and others. Participants manipulate laser beams and gain knowledge in the use of optics. _____________________________________________ Science Hall G6 Hands-on Papermaking Demonstration - Wood Chips to Paper Presented by Barbara Glasbrenner (Potomac State College) and David Glasbrenner (Verso Corporation) Interactive Grade Levels: K - 12 Students experience a hands-on demonstration where a sheet of paper is made from wood pulp.
