PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION
Minority Chamber of Commerce Announces Education Scholarship Program
in Partnership with a Preferred Member, Beauty Schools of America®
This program aims to “Change Lives” of Minority low income families in South Florida by
announcing its first scholarship winner.
Miami, Florida. April 29, 2015. The Minority Chamber of Commerce and Beauty
Schools of America® have a shared goal of strengthening Miami Dade’s education
opportunities through scholarships to minority disadvantaged families. The scholarships
are open to members and their employees, low income families and senior highschool
students pursuing a beauty and/or wellness career. The winner recipient of the first
scholarship is Ms. Arlete Tapanes, a single mother working for Don Pan Bakery; a
corporate member of Minority Chamber of Commerce. The full scholarship was
awarded by Beauty Schools of America® on April 27th, 2015 and presented by the
Miami Campus Director, Ms. Liz Gonzalez and executives from both organizations.

from Minority Chamber, scholarship recipient Arlete Tapanes, and BSA’s Campus Director, Liz Gonzalez.
As Beauty Schools of America® develops future leaders for the industry of wellness and
beauty, the Minority Chamber promotes favorable conditions for better education, job
creation and business growth in South Florida. As part of the chamber’s mission, this
new program will help to provide education opportunities that work to alleviate poverty
and revitalize communities in South Florida.
The Minority Chamber of Commerce Education Scholarship Program is an integral part
of the Minority Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s effort to change lives through the
gift of education. “We are humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity of Beauty
Schools of America®, who have donated more than $200,000 in scholarships to the
Foundation since its inception,” said Doug Mayorga, President & CEO, “Throughout
their history in our community, Beauty Schools of America® is an advocate and
champion for ongoing education. This Scholarship provides an opportunity for us
to honor their commitment through the gift of education for minority families in
our community”.
Campus Director Ms. Liz Gonzalez said, “We are excited to offer one of many
scholarships to minority underprivileged families in the community. Welcome
Arlete to our BSA family”.
The Minority Chamber of Commerce invites South Florida graduating seniors, skills
workers and members’ employees of the Minority Chamber of Commerce to enter the
Minority Education Scholarship Program, which will award $20,000 in scholarships to
qualified candidates. Applications and eligibility requirements can be request to
[email protected] . Winners are selected based on their written or video
applications explaining how they plan to change lives through a career in the beauty
and wellness industry.
