Overview:
‘Business Ethics’ has been regarded as important in the accounting
profession. The Codes of Conduct as well as the financial reports
management undoubtedly form part of ‘Business Ethics’. Unlike accounting,
ethics is difficult to be defined in today’s business world because of the
different ethical beliefs people have (The Journal of Accountancy).Yet, ethics
is being discussed extensively in the contemporary media as well as in
accounting world. Join us for an interactive session on why Ethics is important
for Accounting Professionals with an ethics expert.

Deon Rossouw, CEO (designate) of the Ethics Institute of South Africa
Deon Rossouw was born in South Africa, where he also studied at the
University of Stellenbosch. He is currently the CEO (designate) of the
Ethics Institute of South Africa. He obtained degrees in Philosophy and
Theology and received his Doctorate in Philosophy in 1989. He started
teaching Philosophy in 1986 at Rand Afrikaans University, in
Johannesburg, where he later became Professor and Head of the
Philosophy department. In 2004 he moved to the University of Pretoria,
where he was appointed as Head of the Philosophy Department and
Director of the Centre for Business and Professional Ethics. During 20082009 he spent a year as Program Executive for Business Ethics at the
Globethics.net Foundation in Geneva. He is the author of Business Ethics:
a Southern African perspective (1994) and Business Ethics in Africa
(2002), Developing Business Ethics as an Academic Field (2004) and
Business Ethics [4th edition] (2010). He co-authored Ethics for
Accountants and Auditors [2nd edition] (2009) and co-edited Global
Perspectives on the Ethics of Governance (2006) among others.
