gamify-IT - Students Summer Call [MIH2015/002] Frequently Asked Questions 1. Can foreign students participate in this call? Yes, as long as the students applying are studying in one of the local educational or training providers, it is open for all students. 2. How can we develop a Digital Serious Game within an 11week time window? It is paramount to include only a set of features that can realistically be delivered within this time window. During the first meeting with the team, the MIH may recommend that the team curtails some of the requirements if they evidently cannot be fulfilled within this time window. In addition, if the team finds that the game can be further enhanced, there is no limitation or hindrance for the team to become a member of the MIH and continue building on the game. 3. What kind of mentorship / interaction can be provided by the thematic experts? The MIH will use its best endeavours to provide any necessary support needed to guide the winning teams. This will cover aspects related to the successful completion of the project, including support in game development, as well as integration and sorting of content related to the respective thematic area to deliver a sound gaming experience to users. 4. In the terms and conditions includes a section specifying that “the Digital Serious Game can be utilised on devices equipped with an Internet browser and can adapt to various form factors”. Does this mean that the team can target specific devices on which the Digital Serious Game can be played, or are there any preferences? Yes, the team shall opt to develop the Digital Serious Game for any two or more devices of their choice. In the case of Theme C (The Gamification of Information Security Awareness), preference will be given to Digital Serious Games that can be played on smartphones. Published on 22052015 Version 1.0 5. Point 4 of the Terms & Conditions states that the Digital Serious Game “must be downloadable and can be played without an Internet connection”. Are these mandatory requirements? We understand that this could represent an issue in the development of the Digital Serious Game, since in some cases it could limit the functionality and richness of the Digital Serious Games. For this purpose we have decided to also consider Digital Serious Games that are not downloadable and require an Internet connection while they are being played. 6. Would multiple proposals tackling different themes submitted by the same team be accepted? Yes, students may opt to submit more than one proposal tackling different thematic areas, but ultimately only one proposal from one team will be selected for implementation. It is important to note however that different proposals will only be accepted by members of the same team. Similarly, a student cannot opt to become a member of more than one team and submit proposals submitted by different teams. 7. Can I be part of a team but opt out from the summer job due to other commitments? A team member that resigns from the summer job prior to the end of the eleven week placement, will be allowed to continue to work on completing the project after hours. It is then up to the remaining team members to decide whether to share the final cash prize with the resigning team member. If MITA estimates that the outcome of one or more resigning team members will compromise the chances of the team completing their project, then no cash prize will be disbursed, and only the remuneration due to the students until the date of disbandment will be paid. Since such a situation would compromise the chances of runnersup in the ranking process to lose the opportunity of the summer job, prospective teams should make due ethical considerations prior to taking the decision to compete for the call. Published on 22052015 Version 1.0 8. Can a team utilise resources outside the team? Yes, the team may, at its discretion, source external help to build their game. Teams should ensure that all IP rights rest with the team known by MITA at the time of submission, and that any IP developed by third parties does not infringe any copyright laws. Teams should also be aware that the team members’ remuneration and the cash prize constitute the only disbursement of funds made available for the gamification project. 9. What should we expect from the pitching day? As highlighted in the call document, each team will be expected to pitch their proposed idea and concept to the panel of judges. The pitching day is tentatively being set for the 30th of June at 1000 hours. Each team will be called in to pitch their proposal. The pitch will last five minutes followed by a questionandanswer session. Students may use presentation software or any other preferred medium to convey their pitch to the judges.
